It has been nearly three years since the first season’s release, and finally, Netflix announced that Kengan Ashura Season 2 will premiere in 2023.

The announcement was made recently via the Netflix Anime Twitter account. There, info about the show’s 2023 release was announced alongside a new key visual.

The visual features the series’ two main characters, with salaryman and manager Kazuo Yamashita put front-and-center. At his back is the fearsome Tokita Ohma aka The Ashura.

The second season was announced earlier this year, and it was confirmed that it will adapt the source material until the end of the story. This means the second season should be the last one.

Kengan Ashura is an anime series by Larx Entertainment, the anime studio behind other shows such as Soul Worker: Your Destiny Awaits and Tekken: Bloodline.

Much like the studio’s other projects, Kengan Ashura features 3DCG animation with 2D elements.

The anime is based on the manga of the same name written by Yabako Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. The manga was serialized in Ura Sunday from April 2012 to August 2018.

Sandrovich is also known for writing the manga series How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? (Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru? in Japanese), which stars up-and-coming voice actor Ai Fairouz as the main character, Hibiki Sakura.

In the series’ world, gladiator arenas exist all over the world where the rich hire gladiators to fight each other in winner-takes-all Kengan matches.

The series follows Tokita Ohma, a fighter nicknamed “The Ashura”, who is trying to prove himself as the strongest.

Ohma is hired by Hideko Nogi, a member of the Nogi Group, and assigns salaryman Kazuo Yamashita to be his manager.

Thanks to Ohma’s strength, the duo is invited to the Kengan Annihilation Tournament, a tournament held by the biggest CEOs of Japan. The winner of the tournament will get the seat of Kengan Association Chairman.

The anime’s first season was released on Netflix in two parts. The first part consisted of Episodes 1-12 and premiered on July 31, 2019. The second part included Episodes 13-24 and was released on October 31, 2019.

Currently, there’s no official Kengan Ashura Season 2 release date yet, but it is confirmed to premiere sometime in 2023.
