Namor Almost Appeared in Doctor Strange 2: "But Marvel Has Other Plans For Him"

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the first highly-anticipated Marvel film slated for this year. Helmed by Sam Raimi, Multiverse of Madness was rumored to beat Spider-Man: No Way Home's three-generation reunion of fan-beloved Peter Parker crossover level.

That being said, fans have expected the Doctor Strange sequel to include jaw-dropping cameos of characters from different massive franchises, especially after Patrick Stewart’s Professor X was hinted at in the teasers.

Namor the Sub-Mariner was among the rumored appearances to crossover at the film. But what makes this momentous is that this appearance will also be the debut of Marvel's King of Atlantis. However, when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hit the big screens, even Namor's shadow or any Easter Egg that references the character wasn't spotted in the film.

Was Namor even considered for Doctor Strange 2?

In an interview with Variety, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron confirmed that Namor's involvement as a member of the Illuminati was discussed, but never made it to the film due to Marvel Studios having other plans with the character.

"[We] talked about him, because he's certainly an original member of the Illuminati," Waldron said. "But I think Marvel has other plans for him in the [Marvel Cinematic Universe]. And so he didn't make his way in this particular movie."

In Marvel Comics, Namor is one of the founding members of the Illuminati, and ever since rumors swirled about the group's arrival, fans absolutely expected Namor to make it to the lineup.

Luckily, that doesn't mean that Namor will never emerge in the MCU. On the other hand, this comment from Waldron easily confirmed that the Atlantean will come sooner than expected. Fans of Namor will surely rejoice when the well-known character makes his entry in the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as recent reports claim that Namor will be the main villain for the Black Panther sequel. Although Marvel hasn’t yet confirmed Namor in the upcoming film, the Black Panther sequel will reportedly introduce the Atlantis into the MCU. And how else Marvel Studios would introduce Namor? Of course, as the King of Atlantis.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is now showing in theaters worldwide.
