It's been a while since Disney made any announcements about its live-action Mulan, however, with production on-going as the film works towards its expected 2020 release, rumors have started circulating online. Not only does the mill suggest that a trailer for Mulan might be on the way, but word also has it that Disney is trying to tap comedian Kevin Hart to voice fan-favorite dragon, Mushu.
The DisInsider has the newest updates on Mulan, and according to the publication, Disney's live-action Mulan has just wrapped production. While filming has completed, the studio is continuing its search for a voice for Mushu as the project enters the editing process. The Mickey Mouse House's top pick? Kevin Hart.
A small and shrimp-like red Chinese dragon, Mushu not only served as comic relief in the Mulan movies but also as Mulan's closest friend. However, as important as Mushu is, the dragon hasn't appeared in any of the official information about the live-action Mulan, even in the synopsis of the movie.
Mulan is the epic adventure of a fearless young woman who masquerades as a man in order to fight Northern Invaders attacking China. The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China's greatest warriors ever.
However, reports say that Mushu is still set to appear in the film and that Disney is looking to tap Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle star Hart for the role.
This is interesting news. Though Hart doesn't have the same voice as Eddie Murphy who gave life to Mushu in the original Mulan, the comedian does have distinct vocal chops.
We can't wait and see what Hart does with the role.
Mulan is set for release sometime March 27, 2020.
