Moon Knight Director Teases Film Centered on Jake Lockley

Marvel Studios has kicked off 2022 by introducing another hero in their constantly expanding slate with Oscar Isaac's Moon Knight. Helmed by Mohamed Diab, Moon Knight follows Steven Grant, a gift shop employee navigating his way through his dissociative identity disorder, establishing a relationship with his other persona Marc Spector, and his entanglement with an Egyptian God named Khonshu.

[SPOILER WARNING]

Moon Knight's conclusion ends up pointing at a lot of possibilities for Isaac's titular hero. At the final episode's ending, Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) was spotted being escorted to a limousine by a mysterious man. Later on, Khonshu revealed himself in the car along with a new Moon Knight persona, Jake Lockley.

Jake Lockley's introduction brings tremendous relevance to the series. In Marvel Comics, Lockley is one of the Moon Knight personas who served as the bridge to the criminal underground. Now that the long-awaited persona finally surfaced, fans are wondering what's next for Steven Grant, Marc Spector, and Jake Lockley.

In an interview with The Wrap, Moon Knight director Mohamed Diab reveals what's next for the new MCU hero.

Diab admitted the uncertainty with Moon Knight's future, however, Diab wants to do a theatrical film for the MCU's latest leading hero, and how he wants to explore more of Jake Lockley. Diab explained, "First of all, Marvel’s keeping us in the dark so I don’t know anything. But if you ask me, I would love to have the chance to make Moon Knight into a film.

Maybe join someone from the Marvel Universe so it’s like partnering up with someone else or being a part of another journey. I would love to see more of Jake, see life through Jake’s point of view at some point. The best thing about starting a new story is the Marc and Steven dynamic is going to change because they’re now living in one body. So it’s such an interesting world. I want to see Layla, who doesn’t like being an avatar and how is she going to live with that or is she going to reject that or is she going to come to terms with her being a superhero? I love all that. So I hope we can put all that in a blender and just play with it."

Moon Knight successfully resolved Marc Spector and Steven Grant's relationship, co-existing in the same body. With Jake Lockley’s arrival, there are so much more potential stories that Marvel could do. Aside from that, May Calamawy’s Layla could be also still explored as to how she embraces her new life as Taweret’s new avatar.

As much as we want to see Oscar Isaac’s new Egyptian hero again, it looks like Marvel Studios hasn't yet discussed the possibility of a second season or a film sequel. However, if ever Moon Knight returns in the future, he could best fit in the live-action version of the Midnight Suns. If Marvel is crazy enough, he could have future interactions with other fan-favorite characters in the MCU like the Avengers.

All episodes of Moon Knight are available to stream on Disney+.
