The Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived at St. Paul's Cathedral for the National Service of Thanksgiving in honor of Queen Elizabeth. When the couple left their car and walked up the stairs of the cathedral, they received mixed responses from the people.

Some cheered on them, but others booed. Nevertheless, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continued to smile while they made their way inside the cathedral, Express reported.

Sky News commentator Rhiannon Mills weighed in on the crowd's reaction to the couple. In her personal opinion, the royal couple also made a huge mistake against the queen by snubbing her.

"Consistently they have said how they love and respect the Queen," Mills said as quoted by Express. "But however the fact it was suggested they did not tell her about their plans to step away from royal life I think was seen as an enormous snub to a woman that so many of us hold in such high regard."

Meghan Markle And Prince Harry's Popularity Drop Days Before They Arrived In The U.K.

The reaction from the crowd might not be surprising anymore. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were among the most popular royals when they were still with the firm, but their favorability rating has dropped since.

In a recent poll by YouGov, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's popularity went down further. Prince Harry got -26 while Markle received -42.

The Duke of Sussex dropped by a point. On the other hand, his wife slipped three points down, Sunrise reported.

In January 2020, they announced that they were planning to step down from their royal duties. There were rumors that they didn't inform the senior royals before announcing their plans to the public, which Prince Harry denied saying he couldn't betray his grandmother.

Many were furious when the royal couple sat down for a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, especially when they mentioned that a member of the royal family raised concern about their unborn son's complexion without dropping a name. The couple decided to keep the name private as it could damage the royal family. However, others felt that by not identifying the alleged racist royal, they allowed the public to speculate and paint every member of the royal family as racist.
