Of Queen Elizabeth's four children, only Prince Edward's first marriage worked. The British monarch is very particular when it comes to whom Prince William will marry because she doesn't want him to endure a broken marriage like his parents, Prince Charles and Princess Diana, according to reports. So, she nurtures the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's relationship.

Queen Elizabeth Supports Prince William And Kate Middleton's Romance

The 96-year-old monarch shares a close bond with Prince William's wife, Kate Middleton. Several royal experts even said that she is confident with the future of the monarchy under the leadership of the Cambridges.

According to royal biographer Andrew Morton, who also worked as Princess Diana's former biographer, Queen has a role in Prince William and Middleton's relationship. Her Majesty was reportedly "fond" of Middleton for her grandson, particularly the way she loves Prince William for himself.

The Queen also does her part to support the couple.

"She spends a lot more time supporting and nurturing the relationship between William and Kate than she did with Charles and Diana… It's pretty clear she wasn't going to make that mistake again,” Morton told OK! Magazine (via Geo.TV).

Morton's comment came a week after a French magazine claimed that the Cambridges had split up. The future king and queen consort debunked the rumor by showing up at the premiere of Tom Cruise's Top Gun: Maverick premiere in London.

Queen Elizabeth And Princess Diana's Relationship Revisited

While the Queen has a warm relationship with Kate Middleton, according to royal experts, her bond with Princess Diana wasn't as strong.

Several sources said Princess Diana didn't want to divorce Prince Charles. She even asked for the Queen's advice. However, she didn't receive the support she expected because the monarch told her, she didn't know what the late Princess of Wales should do.

"So I went to the top lady [Queen Elizabeth II], sobbing," Princess Diana said while sobbing, based on the recordings featured in the documentary Diana: In Her Own Words. "And I said ‘What do I do? I am coming to you, what do I do?’ And she said, ‘I don’t know what you should do.’ And that was it. And that was help."

Prince William and Prince Harry's parents separated after their mom received a letter from the Queen advising them to divorce.

"I have consulted with the Archbishop of Canterbury and with the prime minister and, of course, with Charles, and we have decided that the best course for you is divorce," the Queen's letter reportedly read.

Princess Diana was reportedly furious because she wasn't asked if she wanted to divorce her husband or not. Prince Charles and Princess Diana separated in 1992, and their divorce was finalized four years later.
