Marvel's Savage Avengers Might Just Be the Company's Weirdest (and Coolest) Team Comic

Have you ever wanted to see a comic book team comprised of Conan the Barbarian, Wolverine, The Punisher, and Venom? Well, Marvel Comics has got your back with the newly-announced Savage Avengers book coming to comic shelves this May. The series will be written by former Deadpool scribe Gerry Duggan and illustrated by superstar artist Mike Deodato Jr. fresh of last year's Infinity Wars event.

Revealed by Entertainment Weekly, the comic book features an unsanctioned team of Marvel's deadliest characters. Aside from Conan, Punisher, Venom, and Wolverine, the comic will also feature Brother Voodoo and Elektra, for more magic and stabbing. If anything else, this is a fairly unique team book that we haven't seen in a while.

Of course, the big question everyone has is how Conan the Barbarian is part of the team since his current series takes place in the past. Then again, Conan is slated to appear in Avengers: No Road Home, so there's a good chance that series will explain how the literal Barbarian

Duggan does address the character in the article. Here's what the writer had to say:

"[Artist] Mike Deodato Jr. is illustrating this book in both worlds. We envisioned a threat, a magical green zone where the evil wizards of Conan's world are trading spells with the Hand in Japan. Conan is on a very Conan-like mission; he's heard a tale of an amulet so he's chasing it, and the evil magic sorcerers are doing something that would be a Marvel Avengers problem. It feels like we have found some very fertile ground that is a Venn diagram between those two worlds."

With the first arc taking place in the Savage Land, it looks like Savage Avengers is off to a fairly interesting start. We've seen comic books with killers before but this could be one of the more off-beat ones in recent memory. I mean, it has Conan in a team book!

Savage Avengers #1 comes out this May.
