Marvel's Blade Recruits True Detective Writer to Pen Script

The MCU reboot of Blade has gone through a lot of obstacles during its development and pre-production phase. Originally, they had Bassam Tariq as the director of the film before he exited just several weeks before its planned production started last year.

Fortunately, things went back on track as Marvel Studios eventually tapped Yann Demange as the new director of the film and it is now slated to begin production again very soon.

Today, another change has happened on the project behind-the-scenes as The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto has been recruited to write the screenplay for Blade.

The Emmy-nominated writer is working off a draft by the film's previous writer Michael Starrbury and he has been rewriting the screenplay for a few weeks now as production is expected to begin in Atlanta by the end of this month.

Pizzolatto's involvement in the MCU project will also mark his reunion with the film's star Mahershala Ali, who he worked with in the third season of True Detective. The actor also earned an Emmy nomination for his performance in the series.

Besides Ali, Pearl star Mia Goth is also set to co-star in the film. The report also confirmed that Delroy Lindo, who was cast back when Tariq was helming the movie, remains to be part of the cast.

This is certainly an exciting development for the movie given Pizzolatto's caliber and there is no doubt that he is one of the best screenwriters today as proven by his works on films and TV. It also helps that he already worked with Ali in the past.

It is curious to see what kind of changes and additions did the Emmy-nominated writer make to the new version of the script. Nevertheless, it is great to see that a renowned writer like him gets to be part of crafting the upcoming MCU movie.
