Blade Adds The Harder They Fall Star Delroy Lindo in Mysterious Role

Fans have been looking forward to seeing the Blade solo movie in the MCU ever since Mahershala Ali's casting as the daywalker was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con two years ago. Since then, there hasn't been much development on the casting side. But now, we know the first supporting player who will join Ali in the much-anticipated film.

The Hollywood Reporter has reported that The Harder They Fall star Delroy Lindo is in final negotiations to join the cast of Blade. Just like in most Marvel casting news, the details of his role are under wraps for now. He is the first actor to join the project outside Ali. Bassam Tariq is attached to direct the film. Watchmen writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour was tapped to write the screenplay. According to THR's sources, filming is set to begin by late summer 2022.

There are fans who are speculating that Lindo might be playing either Abraham Whistler or Jamal Afari. It would make sense for the actor to play either of them given his age and it is safe to say that he will be taking the mentor role who will have a huge part in Blade's life. This isn't Lindo's first rodeo in the Marvel Universe as he was previously cast as Dominic Fortune in the unaired Agents of SHIELD spin-off pilot Marvel's Most Wanted.

Blade already made his MCU debut recently in the post-credits scene of Eternals albeit through an off-screen voice appearance. He is also rumored to make an appearance in Moon Knight (given his supernatural connection) and he is expected to be one of the major players in the franchise moving forward.

The film has no release date yet, but it is said to be part of the future phase of the MCU.
