Marvel's Big Bad Is Inspired By A DCU Legend

Marvel and DC Studios superheroes are unique and interesting in their rights, but there could be times that some characters from this franchise will have a resemblance to characters from another franchise, whether it’s the same designs, abilities, or backstories. For example, Moon Knight and Batman; Hawkeye and Green Arrow; Namor and Aquaman; Deadpool and Deathstroke; Black Cat and Catwoman; Doctor Strange and Doctor Fate; Vision and Red Tornado; and Thanos and Darkseid. MCU’s upcoming on-screen villain actor recently revealed his portrayal is inspired by an iconic DCU villain.

Jonathan Majors, who will bring big bad Kang the Conqueror to life in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, recently shared the inspirations that led to his portrayal, which include Iron Man, Genghis Khan, and Alexander the Great. The actor has revealed who he channeled the most to take on his villainous characters in both Creed III and Ant-Man, dropping the name of an iconic DCU character. According to him, “Okay, first of all, he’s [Heath Ledger] gorgeous… he didn’t give a f***…he threw his body around… I’m coming for that… I’m inspired.”

It’s undeniable that Heath Ledger portrayed one of the best villains out of any superhero property that has ever been created, The Dark Knight’s Joker. He won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his convincing and affecting performance as a criminal psychopath. If Majors is aiming to be as violent and poetic as Ledger’s Clown Prince of Crime, fans are surely in for a spectacular viewing experience.

With a few more days left until Ant-Man 3 premieres on the big screen for everyone to see, the first reactions from critics have already set the momentum for the kick-off project for Marvel’s Phase 5. Some call it Star Wars and are already praising Majors for his demonic portrayal.

“The best Star Wars movie since 2018 is #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania. It’s a huge sci-fi adventure with gorgeous worworld-buildingat that feels almost un-Marvel in how much world-building there is. But it’s got humor, heart, Kang completely rules & Michelle Pfeiffer steals it.” wrote user @GermainLussier.

“Marvel’s #AntManAndTheWaspQuantumania is a strong start to Phase 5. I now understand why it’s called #Quantumania. JonathanMajors is excellent as Kang and cannot wait to see where this all goes. 2 after the credits scenes and both are very good.” said Steven Weintraub.
