Production has already begun for Tom Holland's third Spider-Man film and over the last couple of months, our favorite web-slinging hero has been generating quite the buzz on social media due to the fact that Spider-Man 3 could end up becoming the MCU version of the Spider-Verse film. As it stands, the untitled Spidey flick is pretty stacked with a lot of names being added to the official cast. Just recently, it was reported by several news outlets that Andrew Garfield has officially signed on for the project but no official word has been given.
A few months back, Marvel Studios promised us that we'll get our very first look at the highly-anticipated sequel but as it turns out, that isn't the case anymore and according to a new scoop from insider Daniel Richtman, they have a pretty good reason for delaying the sneak peek reveal. In a tweet, Richtman claims that both Sony and Marvel Studios want to secure Tobey Maguire's contract first before releasing any content. "I hear they want to close things with Tobey before showing us anything. They need that money shot," he wrote.
Maguire potentially joining the project would be a monumental move and I understand why the people behind the two film studios are pretty adamant about signing him to reprise his role as Peter Parker. Webheads have always regarded Maguire as one of the best actors to don the Spidey costume and to have him return after 13 years will be a dream come true for a lot of us. I feel like Tobey still has unfinished business with the character and considering the fact that Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 bombed, this could be the redemption arc he so desperately needs.
The MCU's Spider-Man 3 is slated for release in December 2021.
