Marvel Studios executive Louis D'Esposito reflected on the recent setbacks that the MCU has experienced for the last few years.

It is no secret for many fans that the franchise has been in a vulnerable state lately as some of their recent releases received underwhelming reception both financially and critically.

The studio is starting to address the issue by reducing its number of output for film and TV projects and targeting fewer releases per year compared to the earlier days of the Multiverse Saga.

In a recent interview, D'Esposito opened up about the MCU's recent setbacks where he admitted that it has been a "rough time" for the studio.

Despite the issues that they have, he believed the franchise will return with a splash as they have learned their lesson from the experience.

"If we just stayed on top, that would have been the worst thing that could have happened to us. We took a little hit, we’re coming back strong," he said.

"Maybe when you do too much, you dilute yourself a little bit. We’re not going to do that anymore. We learned our lesson. Maybe two to three films a year and one or two shows, as opposed to doing four films and four shows."

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is putting a positive spin on the setbacks as he called it an opportunity for them to be an "underdog" again similar to Phase One.

"It’s nice to be able to rally behind one feature project this year. I’m much more comfortable being the underdog. I prefer being able to surprise, and exceed expectations. So it does seem like the last year, which has not been ideal, has set us up well for that," he said.

It is clear from their comments that the top brass at Marvel Studios is very much aware of the issues and they are doing all they can to steer the franchise back in the right direction.

It remains to be seen whether Deadpool and Wolverine will become the "Marvel Jesus" and save the franchise, but we are seeing a lot of promising signs that there is still hope for them to get their groove back.

Deadpool and Wolverine is set to arrive in theaters this July 26.
