Disney CEO Bob Iger opened up about the new MCU release strategy as Marvel Studios is reducing its output moving forward.

For the past few years, there have been concerns surrounding the recent MCU releases as some fans felt that the quality has suffered due to the number of film and TV projects that they're producing concurrently.

We've heard from several reports that Marvel Studios has been reassessing its strategy for its future releases and is eyeing to reduce their number of output compared to the last couple of years.

Marvel Studios is Limiting the Number of MCU Movies and Shows Per Year

According to a report, Iger recently addressed the changes to the MCU release strategy during the company’s quarterly earnings call.

He revealed that Marvel Studios is now targeting to release only 2-3 films and 2 TV shows per year in order to focus more on quality.

"We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three. And we’re working hard on what that path is," he explained.

The Disney CEO also noted that Marvel has "a couple of good films in ’25 and then we’re heading to more Avengers, which we’re extremely excited about."

"Overall, I feel great about the slate. It’s something that I’ve committed to spending more and more time on," Iger added. "The team is one that I have tremendous confidence in and the IP that we’re mining, including all the sequels that we’re doing, is second to none."

Iger also explained that some of the upcoming TV shows including Agatha are "a vestige of basically a desire in the past to increase volume."

Considering the reports that we've been hearing for the past few months regarding Marvel Studios' new strategy, it's not surprising to hear the new plans to reduce their number of releases per year.

It is a huge contrast to the year 2021 where they notably had 4 films and 4 live-action shows. It was similar in 2022 where they had 3 films, 3 live-action shows, and 2 special presentations.

With this change in strategy, we can expect some new announcements in the coming weeks or months including release date delays or an updated new MCU slate.
