Marvel Studios Reportedly Set Release Window for Doctor Strange 3

After the success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness last year, there have been questions about whether there is going to be a third film for the titular hero's solo adventure in the MCU. So far, Marvel Studios has been keeping mum about their plans for the character after the sequel although the end of the film does set up some path for his future.

Now, a recent scoop from notable insider Jason Kane (Greatphase) revealed some alleged details about the upcoming MCU projects including Doctor Strange 3 where they claimed that Marvel Studios is fast-tracking the project and is planning to release it before Avengers: The Kang Dynasty in 2026.

They also reported that Scott Derrickson, who directed the first film, will return to helm the character's third solo outing and Marvel Studios will do some reshuffling on their schedule for the 2025 projects onwards due to the changes in their plans.

Another notable insider, Big Screen Leaks, backed up the rumor on Twitter although they cast their doubt on Derrickson's return in the third film as they haven't heard about it. In case you forgot, he was also set to direct Multiverse of Madness before exiting due to creative differences.

We do have to take note that Marvel Studios has not made any confirmations yet about their plans for Doctor Strange 3 so we have to take it with a grain of salt for now as well as some of the other alleged schedule reshuffling.

Considering that Multiverse of Madness was the highest-grossing comic book movie last year, it is inevitable that it will get a third film at some point in the future. The ending also laid out some groundwork about what they might explore in the next installment.

If they do move forward with a third film, what will the story be all about? Does Derrickson actually return? Or Sam Raimi returns from the second film instead? Obviously, Benedict Cumberbatch will return, and, to some extent, Charlize Theron's Clea since she was in the mid-credits scene. We will never know for now.
