Before we start, let's make one thing perfectly clear right off the bat. A lot of people are weirded out by WandaVision and its overall treatment, drawing huge inspiration from classic American sitcoms but despite all that, the spinoff show is still canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Now, if you happen to be a first-time viewer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and are interested in checking WandaVision out, don't fret because there's no need for you to sit through all 23 MCU films just to get hold of what's going on in the show and the things that are about to unfold. In fact, only four films are essential for you to watch and we've listed them down below to serve as your reference.

Avengers: Age of Ultron

The Maximoff twins Wanda and Pietro made their first MCU appearance in the end-credits scene of Captain America: The Winter Soldier but Age of Ultron introduced the gifted twins to the Earth's Mightiest Heroes. It's important that you see this film because it establishes Wanda's origins and WandaVision's first two episodes are loaded with AOU easter eggs.

Captain America: Civil War

While Age of Ultron gave us a taste of Wanda's jaw-dropping powers, Civil War pretty much cements the fact that Maximoff can be a threat to mankind especially during times when she doesn't have control over her superpowers. This also marks the beginning of Wanda and Vision's "unusual" romance which plays a major factor in the Disney+ show.

Avengers: Infinity War

Infinity War saw Maximoff make the ultimate sacrifice in order to save the universe. During the climactic sequence of the film involving the Mad Titan Thanos, the Scarlet Witch was forced to destroy the Mind stone which serves as Vision's source of life and strength. This marked the beginning of Wanda's emotional distress the events that took place in this film play a major part in WandaVision.

Avengers: Endgame

Fans may not realize it, but Endgame actually teased that Wanda has been going through emotional turmoil after the things that happened in her life prior to Thanos' snap. This may have also led to her creating her own pocket reality once they were brought back from the Soul World.

The aforementioned films are all you need but if you want to take your experience up a notch, there is plenty of reference material you can read to get a better idea of what's about to go down in the lives of Wanda and Vision. I would recommend you go check out comic book titles like Vision and the Scarlet Witch, Vision's solo run, Avengers: Disassembled, and House of M among others.
