Mads Mikkelsen Almost Played Reed Richards in Fantastic Four

Marvel fans are currently waiting for the Fantastic Four reboot to reveal its cast. In the meantime, Mads Mikkelsen has shared an interesting revelation. The Hannibal star has just admitted that he originally auditioned for the role of Reed Richards.

There is little doubt that Mikkelsen is known for playing some truly formidable characters like Hannibal Lecter, Le Chiffre in Casino Royale, and Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. But can you imagine him as Mister Fantastic? Mikkelsen has revealed to Vulture that he tried out for the role in 2005's Fantastic Four and the process was pretty amusing.

"I know a lot of casting is just first impressions — is there anything there that reminds the producer and the director of the character they're looking for?" Mikkelsen said. "But I find it rude to ask people to come into a room and say one line while pretending you have 80-foot arms like the rubber man. ‘Grab that cup of coffee over there' — it's like, Are you crazy? There's not even a scene here. It was kind of humiliating."

Sadly, Mikkelsen didn't nail that audition but the role was eventually given to his friend Ioan Gruffudd. In addition to that, Mikkelsen would go on to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe by playing Kaecilius in Doctor Strange.

It's difficult to imagine Mikkelsen as Mister Fantastic but we can still look forward to seeing him play interesting characters. He was previously confirmed to take on the role of Gellert Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts 3 after Johnny Depp departed the project.
