After being in developmental hell for a number of years, Lucasfilm is finally moving forward with the upcoming fifth Indiana Jones film which will mark Harrison Ford's return to the franchise as the titular role. The yet-to-be-titled project will mark the first time director Stephen Spielberg steps out of his directorial duties after the reins were passed on to James Mangold. However, Spielberg will still remain involved in the film as its producer.

Last week, Lucasfilm announced the casting of Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Ford's female co-star in the film but other details about her character were not disclosed. The casting reveals also coincided with the announcement that legendary composer John Williams will also return to work on the project's musical score.

Now, close to a week following the internet-breaking announcement, it's being reported that Fantastic Beasts star Mads Mikkelsen will also be joining the cast. The latest development came from ComicBook and just Waller-Bridge's involvement in the film, details about Mikkelsen's role are still being kept under wraps.

The Indiana Jones franchise has undoubtedly stood the test of time and I'm glad that younger folks will get to experience the magic of arguably one of the biggest and most iconic film franchises of all time. It's a little too early to tell if Indiana Jones 5 will eventually spawn another sequel but if it ends up being Indy's final rodeo, then you know for sure that it's going to be huge.

Indiana Jones 5 is slated for release in July 2022.
