The last time we saw Madelyne Pryor was when she declared she wanted nothing to do with the X-Men so she could write her own story. Despite being a clone, she wishes to live her own life.

Considering that Madelyne was always vocal about wanting to live a 'normal' life outside of being a mutant, her identity as a clone already prevents her from doing so.

No matter how much she yearned for a life outside of superhero work, it would seem that X-Men '97 episode 5 had a different plan for her.

When Magneto came to Genosha with Rogue and Gambit, the council sought the new mutant leader's help in becoming the island's ruler.

However, as he was mulling over why they would choose an ex-terrorist like him to look after the mutant nation, Madelyne Pryor was surprisingly one of the members leading the country. What's up with that?

Although the reason for her presence was not explicitly explained, it is possible that she intentionally joined Genosha for peace. That is until the council acknowledged her strength and knowledge that could keep Genosha safe.

Keep in mind that Madelyne's last words to the original Jean Grey were: "All we have now is the future. My next life will be mine," which could mean this was her decision.

One of the most prominent places that exist in the world of X-Men was featured in X-Men '97 episode 5 titled Remember It. Genosha is an entirely fictional country in the Marvel Universe.

As far as X-Men '97 has shown, the country was supposed to be governed by Magneto himself, after he demanded a mutants-only nation.

However, this doesn't last long as giant Sentinels wreaked havoc and committed genocide on the majority of the mutants, which all happened in the fifth episode.

What makes the episode even more heartwrenching is the fact that Madelyne Pryor's son returned from the future in an attempt to stop the genocide.

As it turns out, he failed to protect them "again", meaning he had been trying to save his mother his entire life.
