Made in Abyss Season 2 Episode 1 Recap
The episode begins with Vueko's backstory as a helpless young girl who was physically and verbally abused by a cruel man. Because little is known about her origins, she remains a mystery in the pilot episode.
The cruel man once brought home a valuable compass. According to the cruel man, he found the compass in the middle of the sea on a mysteriously abandoned boat. While there are strange corpses lying around, an elderly man who appears to be normal remains in the corner.
When the cruel man picked up the compass, the old man told him that the golden city would be there when the compass stood up straight. The man died immediately after saying those words.
Fast forward to when Vueko was freed from the cruel man and became one of Ganja's Three Sages. Wazukyan set out with her compass to find the exact location of the impassable greater pit.
Belaf tries to cheer up Vueko, who is insecure about herself. He explains that despite her wounds and thin body, Vueko is stunning. He believes that beauty is not found on the outside.
The compass points straight up when a storm hits some of Wazukyan's ships. This simply means that they discovered the precise location of the Greater Pit, where the Golden City awaits.
The natives of the abyss greeted the Suicide Corps of Ganja upon their arrival. They were taken to the village chief, who exchanged his services for Vueko's compass. A young native girl appeared behind Vueko as they were about to descend.
According to the glyphs on the back of her body, Belaf identifies the young girl as having no ability to produce children. She was exiled from her people because she couldn't bear a child. The young girl's name is Irumyuui.
As a result, Vueko felt sympathy for the young girl. The expedition continues with Irumyuui thanks to Wazukyan. As the crew descends from one layer to the next, the young girl explains the abyss curse.
The episode paralleled Riko, Reg, and Nanachi's final dive as the expedition reached the sixth layer. After successfully fighting against the white whistle, Bondrewd, Riko, and the others manage to do their final dive.
Upon diving, they smelled the eternal fortune’s incense, which is often used at celebrations and funerals.
By touching the Prushka whistle, the final dive is activated. Finally, Reg, Riko, and Nanachi witnessed the Sea of Corpses.
After Meinya and Riko took a dump, they managed to exit the sea of corpses. The trio was led to the entrance of the Capital of the Unreturned as they exited.
