Ahead of the Season 2 premiere, Febri published an interview with Made in Abyss creator Akihito Tsukushi. There, Tsukushi shared a lot of interesting info about the series, including his favorite moments in the Made in Abyss anime.

The interview is in Japanese and was first published in Volume 44 of the Febri magazine which was initially published back in October 2017. Given this, the interview centered mostly around the events of Season 1.

Spoiler Alert: There are spoilers for Made in Abyss Season 1 in this article.

While it’s an old interview at this point, it does provide a rare glimpse into the mind of Tsukushi, especially for fans of Made in Abyss outside Japan.

One of Tsukushi’s favorite moments in Made in Abyss is in episode 10 where Reg must break Riko’s arm. He said in the interview that the moment was more exciting in the anime compared to the manga.

Tsukushi further explained that having the scene depicted from the front made it much more impactful. Because of this, viewers can more clearly see Reg’s reaction and how it impacted him.

This moment being one of Tsukushi’s favorites is perhaps unsurprising for fans of the series. That episode in particular is arguably the most memorable moment in Made in Abyss Season 1 as it was a brutal depiction of the dangers of the Abyss.

The Made in Abyss creator also shared that the introduction to the series’ world in episode 1 is another favorite moment of his. He said that the anime’s first episode had “an outstanding compositional power” that left him impressed.

Tsukushi went so far as to say that he didn’t like the first chapter of the manga in comparison.

Made in Abyss is an anime series that’s based on the ongoing manga of the same name by Akihito Tsukushi. The first season of the anime consists of 12 episodes and was released in 2017. The series was compiled into two anime movies in 2019.

The anime continued with the Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul movie which was released in cinemas in 2020. The story will then continue in Made in Abyss Season 2 (full title: Made in Abyss: The Golden City of the Scorching Sun) which premieres today.

You can read the full interview on the Febri website. Though take note that it is only available in Japanese, so you’ll have to rely on a translation service to read it.
