Mari Okada is a notable Japanese screenwriter and director. She is best known for writing lots of popular anime shows, including Toradora!, Anohana, The Pet Girl of Sakurasou, and Black Butler, among others.

Along with TV series, Okada has also directed the anime film Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms. She also wrote other notable movies like The Anthem of the Heart, Her Blue Sky, and A Whisker Away.

Okada’s works have earned her a loyal following both in Japan and internationally. Thus, many were excited when MAPPA announced that they were the studio working on Okada’s next film.

The film is titled Alice to Therese no Maboroshi Koujou, and it was originally announced back in 2021 at the MAPPA Stage Event 2021.

Following the original teaser’s reveal, it took MAPPA a while before revealing new information. Because of this, fans were worried that the film was shelved, or at least ran into production issues.

Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, as MAPPA finally revealed the film’s September 2023 release date in Japan. At the time of its release date reveal, no news on international release plans were detailed.
