Logan Director Shares How He Made the Movie Fresh

If the aged faces of Logan a.k.a. Wolverine as well as Professor Charles Xavier aren't enough of clues, the overall feel and look of Logan stands apart from the X-Men movie franchises that we've seen so far. And that's actually a move that director James Mangold took to ensure that he's bringing something new to the table.

In an interview with Comicbook.com, Mangold revealed that he made use of the post-credits scene in X-Men: Days of Future Past to allow a good deal of time to pass between the franchise and his film.

"I just wanted to get far enough past. My goal was real simple: it was to pick a time where I had enough elbow room that I was clear of existing entanglements. Part of the way I think these films stop being fresh (these films being franchise comic book movies) is when you find yourself making essentially a television series… where you're literally just picking up where the last one left off and you're making a mini-series."

For Mangold, this is a practice of bringing in a fresh take on X-Men as a whole and not just Wolverine's story. Even the previous Wolverine movie doesn't seem to touch this particular title, if only because Mangold had wanted it to become its very own piece.

In fact, Logan gets a daughter of his own in a sense by way of X-23, the girl who he has been with in the teasers and the new trailer. Logan will also be tapping beyond the surface of emotional tensions, not only just between the supposed son and daughter dynamics, but also between Logan and Professor X.

Logan will land in theaters on March 3 with an R-rating.
