Logan Director Hopes The Movie Will “Shake Up” Industry

Logan has already shown that it is one of the hallmarks of superhero movies. Of course, this is not solely due to its R-rating, but rather, the fact that the creation of Logan was something that was all about risks.

Speaking to Comicbook, com, Logan director James Mangold revealed that his goal for Logan was to become the pioneer toward continued change and evolution in the cinematic industry.

"What I'd love this movie to open the door for is continued experimentation. The filmmakers are allowed to take on these projects and instead of making a movie that can be cut seamlessly to the last movie and no one will see the difference, that the filmmakers and the actors are allowed to express themselves."

Mangold added that the industry has started to become stale, with the common plague of trying to be similar to the movie that hit it big with fans and movie sales.

"I think that if we were of any influence, I don't think it should be that just every movie should be rated R. It's that every movie should be whatever way that particular story and characters. Create an interesting dream for the filmmakers and actors involved."

In particular, Mangold reiterated the importance of experimenting with voice and interpretations, which could be a way to effect some change in the industry.

This echoes a similar approach by Logan and X-Men: Supernova producer Simon Kinberg when it comes to the question of whether the new X-Men movie will follow in the footsteps of Rated-R.

Logan is already out in theaters, and it stars Hugh Jackman in his last run as Wolverine, Patrick Stewart, and Dafne Keen.

Read:Ghost in the Shell will have its own anthology.

Spawn will also be rated R.
