Yu Yu Hakusho is set in a world where different kinds of demons and maidens exist, in addition to humanity. One of the most interesting species to ever walk the face of the demon realm is the Korime, also known as Ice-Apparitions. They are a race of Ice Maidens, but what kind of powers do the Korime hold in Yu Yu Hakusho?

Who Are the Korime in Yu Yu Hakusho?
The Korime (Koorime) are also known as ice apparitions. They are an Ice Maiden race that has an isolated community located on the floating island of Hyouga somewhere in the demon realm. The other term for Korime’s community is Glacial Village.
They are an all-female race that forbids male children on their island and/or interacting with male maidens or demons. They believe that the male species will only bring devastation to their community and end their kind.
Unlike other demons and maidens, the Korime are immortal, having an infinite lifespan. Interestingly, they can conceive asexually through parthenogenesis every 100 years.
If an ice maiden mates with a male demon or species, the result of their reproduction will be 100% male.
The child will inherit the father’s traits, contrary to usual female children brought to life with normal conception. The child will also be treated as an Ikomi or cursed child.
The Korime’s race is heavily inspired by Yuki-onna, a race of female spirits (yokai) who were forbidden to marry human men and were forever cold.
One of the best-known korime in Yu Yu Hakusho is Hina, who was Yukina and Hiei’s mother. She died of suicide after the other maidens threw Hiei off the mountain to die.
Since Hiei was a male, he was abandoned, while Yukina was saved. Hiei then goes on a journey to kill all of the Korime as his vengeance.
He later abandoned this goal and proceeded to find Yukina instead.

What Are the Powers of the Korime in Yu Yu Hakusho?
Not much has been said about the mysterious powers of the Korime in Yu Yu Hakusho. We can only explain Yukina’s abilities since she is a pure Ice Maiden, unlike Hiei, who was a half-ice maiden and half-fire demon.
Yukina, as an ice maiden has the power to manipulate ice. She can freeze any object or human she likes.
However, because of her kind heart and gentle demeanor, she never uses it to harm other people unless her life is in grave danger.
Yukina can also shed crystal tears, similar to her late mother, Hina, who shed the Tear Stone, which Hiei kept for a very long time until he lost it while fighting a demon.
Since Ice Maidens rarely cry, crystal stones are valuable. This explains why Yukina was being held captive by humans to make a fortune out of her.
In addition, Yukina can also use accelerated healing. She can heal herself effortlessly and even heal others, especially the likes of Kuwabara who believes it’s the power of her love.
