Meet Hiei: Master of the Evil Eye in Yu Yu Hakusho
Many are curious about the origin of Hiei in Yu Yu Hakusho. Some mistake him for a human, while others believe that he is a demon.
In reality, Hiei is known as an Imiko (a cursed or forbidden child), who was born from an unidentified male fire demon and a female ice maiden named Hina.
Hiei was thrown over the mountain in the belief that he would bring devastation to the isolationist Koorime community, despite his mother’s objections.
Thankfully, he survived the fall and was taken care of by a gang of bandits. His time with them didn’t last long as soon as he found out the true value of the tear stone his mother shed at his birth.
He used it to attract enemies to kill, which influenced his way of life. He began killing for fun with no regard for his victims’ lives.
At some point in the series, Hiei received the third eye, also known as the Jagan. The main purpose of Hiei’s third eye is to find the Ice Village and exact vengeance.
He also wanted to find the tear stone, which he lost after fighting a demon.
When Hiei returned to his home village, he discovered that his mother had died of suicide. He also learned that he has a twin sister named Yukina, who left the village to seek his whereabouts.

Who Gave Hiei His Third Eye in Yu Yu Hakusho?
The demon chiropractor and surgeon, Shigure the Osteopath, implanted the third eye on Hiei’s forehead despite its dangerous and painful process.
He is infamous in the Demon World (Makai) due to his prowess as a doctor, earning him the moniker Doctor of Darkness.
In exchange for hearing Hiei’s interesting life story, Shigure gave Hiei his third eye (Jagan). Hiei also promised Shigure not to tell Yukina that he was her missing twin brother in exchange for the third eye.
In the past, Shigure warned Hiei of the possible consequences of implanting the third eye on his forehead. The Jagan can take all of Hiei’s previous strength, and the surgical process can take a toll on his body.
Despite this, Hiei moved forward with the implant and survived. He stayed with Shigure to learn the art of swordsmanship. Shigure, on the other hand, later worked with Mukuro as part of the 77 elite guardsmen.
How Strong Is Hiei’s Third Eye in Yu Yu Hakusho?
Hiei is a very powerful and capable fighter even without the Jagan, despite his tendency to act impulsively without any planning or strategy, unlike Kurama.
He defeats his opponents with brute force and overwhelms them with his unrivaled speed. With the third eye, Hiei becomes even more powerful in Yu Yu Hakusho.
His third eye allows him to not only control the minds of weaker demons but also give him psychic abilities such as telekinesis, remote viewing, and even memory erasure.
In Hiei’s Jaganshi form, his body turns green, and several eyes appear on his body.
It enhances his speed and durability, not to mention allowing him to summon multiple dragons to beat his opponents. This is a very powerful form, as demonstrated in his fight with Yusuke.
