Kokdu: Season of Deity starts telling the story of Kim Jung Hyun’s Kokdu and Im Soo Hyang’s Han Gye Jeol in episode 1.
The Baek Soo Chan and Kim Ji Hoon-directed K-drama series offer a fantasy romance storyline to fans. Premiered on MBC TV on Jan. 27, Kokdu: Season of Deity explores the life of a grim reaper named Kokdu, who goes to the world every 99 years to punish humans.
In his recent return, he meets Dr. Han Gye Jeol, a visiting doctor with mysterious abilities.
The K-drama series features Kim Jung Hyun, Im Soo Hyang, Kim Da Som, Ahn Woo Yeon, Kim In Kwon and Cha Chung Hwa as lead characters.

Kokdu: Season of Deity Episode 1 Recap
Kokdu: Season of Deity episode 1 starts with a woman having a conversation with a man named Oh Hyun as she prepares for her wedding — which she refers to as her funeral. Before the palanquin parade, he tells him that it will be stopped in the mountains near Jeodong and that she should hide in the cave. From there, he pledges to come and get her.
Due to her concerns that both their families would be slaughtered, she expresses her worries to Kokdu. In the end, Oh Hyun dies at the hands of the soldiers.
She plots her revenge and kills her husband, a high-ranking official. Before the soldiers get the chance to kill her, she takes her own life while mourning her loss.
It turns out that it is a story a patient tells her at the present time. Han Gye Jeol (Im Soo Hyang) works as a visiting physician at Eonju Hospital. The patient shares a story of Kokdu with her while doing a consultation.
A deceased patient’s daughter (Jung Young Joo) suddenly slaps Han Gye Jeol and accuses her of murdering her father. Jeon Young Il (Choi Jung Woo) tells her to apologize to the patient’s relative, but she refuses to do so and decides to file a lawsuit instead.
After leaving the hospital, Han Gye Jeol almost falls down a staircase. As soon as she asks for help, everything around her stops. She soon sees Kokdu, who saves her. He drops a necklace that has the same ring in her patient’s story.
Han Gye Jeol feels pressured to work because of people who look down on her because of her credentials. However, she needs to work hard as she only has her younger brother after their mother died.

She treats the necklace as her talisman, but she fails in every interview she goes to. She soon visits Pilseong Medical Center, where she sees Kokdu, who takes on Do Jin Woo’s name.
Kokdu comes down to the world to take a human body that looks like him every 99 years. He then kills people who deserve to die.
He informs her about her employment and that she should start working by next week. However, Tae Jung Won expresses worry after Do Jin Woo tells her she hired Han Gye Jeol. She then talks to her and asks her to quit.
Han Gye Jeol soon found out that Do Jin Woo was the one who operated on Jang Mi Soon. He tells her the CT scan result was seemingly swapped at that time, mentioning Dr. Ji Soo Hyun. He also admits to hiring her because he wants her to become his witness.
After the incident, Han Gye Jeol starts ignoring him. However, he soon reveals the biggest secret he has about Jang Mi Soon. She then tells him that Chairman Kim Pil Soo (Choi Kwang Il) made the doctor swap the result.
Two mysterious people pass by, saying that the season of Kokdu is about to start.
Kim Pil Soo, on the other hand, learns that Do Jin Woo is Jang Mi Soon’s son. On the day of his appearance on the court, he suddenly falls from his apartment building.
While trying to save her, Han Gye Jeol tells him not to die on her. He suddenly stands up despite the blood coming from him, hinting at Kokdu’s awakening. Ok Shin and Gak Shin then welcome him back.
