King Charles reportedly wants to have a slimmed-down monarchy. Even before he became the new monarch, there were already reports claiming that he wants to narrow down the number of royals who are funded by the public purse. But recent claims revealed that his plans to have a slimmed-down monarchy won’t push through anytime soon.

King Charles’ Alleged Plans To Have A Slimmed-Down Monarchy Won’t Happen Anytime Soon, Source Claims

An unnamed royal source told Daily Express that King Charles doesn’t have any immediate plans to change the lineup of senior working royals. This means that the number will remain at 11, which includes himself, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne, Prince Edward, Sophie, Countess of Wessex, the Duke of Kent, Princess Alexandra, the Duke of Gloucester, and the Duchess of Gloucester.

Royal expert Joe Little also claimed that for now, the royal cousins would spread the royal workload amongst themselves.

“I think they are needed to just carry on what they are doing,” he said (via Mirror UK).

Technically, the current lineup of senior working royals was already slimmed-down following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Megxit, as well as Prince Andrew’s decision to take a step back from his royal duties.

Source Claims A Slimmed-Down Monarchy Would Include Fewer People Living Off The Public Purse

According to Financial Times, royal fans also caught a glimpse of what a slimmed-down monarchy might mean back in 2012. During the queen’s 60th Jubilee, only King Charles, Queen Consort Camilla, Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry joined her on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.

In previous years, more members of the royal family joined the queen during the important celebration.

“In one version of a [slimmed-down monarchy], you have a narrower number of people living off the public purse. He has a vision of that being the direct line of succession rather than all the cousins and aunts. It will be less about the royal family and more about direct successors, less about the history, heritage, and glamour, more focused on the role of head of state,” a friend of King Charles said.

King Charles’ Plans To Have A Slimmed-Down Monarchy, Small Coronation Supported By The Public?

According to ITV, the public supports King Charles’ plans to eventually have a slimmed-down monarchy. And since there is an ongoing cost-of-living crisis, reports that the dad of two could also have a small coronation are also welcomed.

“He has already spoken of his wish to continue his mother’s legacy and this includes continuing to recognize what the people are experiencing day by day. The King is very aware of the struggles felt by modern Britons so will see his wishes carried through that although his coronation ceremony should stay right and true to the long-held traditions of the past, it should also be representative of a monarchy in a modern world,” a source said.
