Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all with Oprah Winfrey allegedly worsened the marital crisis between King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla before the ascension.
King Charles And Camilla's Marital Crisis Worsened By Harry And Meghan's Interview With Oprah?
The new king and queen consort have been there for each other and she's his strong support. However, it was reportedly not the case all the time. There was even a point when some of their friends thought they were getting divorced.
"It's an open secret they've been getting on each other's nerves of late," a royal source claimed, Radar Online reported.
King Charles was reportedly tired of her alleged controlling ways. He also found her "strong taste for the limelight irritating."
Meanwhile, Camilla was reportedly frustrated with his "cranky" behavior.
"On the occasions, they are together, they clash — and the arguing gets extremely heated," the source added.
The rift between the senior royal couple reportedly "sky-rocketed" when Prince Harry and Markle's explosive tell-all with Oprah Winfrey was aired.
In the interview, the Duchess of Sussex claimed that she was "silenced." She also shared her struggles while in the palace, including having suicidal thoughts.
On Prince Harry's part, he claimed that King Charles stopped taking his phone and even cut them financially. The pair also said that there were conversations about their unborn child's skin color.
"Charles has been in a wretched mood ever since this scandal blew up, and to say he's tough company at the moment is an understatement," the source said in April 2021, adding that Camilla had been "keeping her distance."
The outlet added that some close to the royal couple "feared divorced was looming." However, their other pals were convinced that it was just a rough patch.
Camilla Remains Dependable And A Loyal Member Of The Monarchy
Despite the reported marital drama between King Charles and Duchess Camilla, ahead of his ascension, she reportedly remained faithful to the firm.
"Camilla has been tirelessly supportive towards Queen Elizabeth these last few weeks as she's dealt with [her husband] Prince Philip's health woes, as well as the fallout from Harry and Meghan's interview," the insider said in April 2021.
"It means the world to Charles that [despite their problems] his wife is still such a dependable and loyal member of the monarchy," the insider continued, adding that she gives him space which helps. "That truly gives everyone hope for the future."
In a separate report, Queen Elizabeth reportedly stepped in to help the couple work on their marital problem.
"The queen has been told Camilla is preparing a divorce action and she's called her to a private audience at Buckingham Place," an insider said.
Apparently, whatever the Queen said to Camilla convinced her to stay in her marriage with Prince Charles.
The king and queen consort celebrated their 17th wedding anniversary in April and their marriage has remained solid. King Charles even acknowledged his wife when he was crowned as the new monarch.
"I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage 17 years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort," King Charles said. "I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much."
