King Charles III is aware that his time as monarch won’t be as long as Queen Elizabeth. After all, he just took over the top job at the age of 73. In fact, even in his first speech as King, he said that he will do his job well for as long as God allows him to live.
King Charles III Will Do His Best As Monarch Regardless If His Reign Is Long Or Short
While speaking with Business Insider, royal historian Marlene Koenig said that King Charles III would do his best as a monarch regardless of how long or short his reign would be. And this period of time where he’s the King of Britain will also serve as the perfect opportunity for his successor, Prince William, to prepare for his future role.
“He knows that his time is shorter. But he’s gonna do the best that he can. He is and he knows he is a caretaker for the next generation,” Koenig said.

King Charles III Is Paving The Way For Prince William To Prepare For His Future Role
Dr. Bob Morris, an honorary senior research associate at UCL’s Constitution Unit, also described monarchs as placeholders for the next generation of kings and queens. After all, they are guaranteed to be replaced someday.
While King Charles III is busy taking over the responsibilities left behind by Queen Elizabeth, his eldest son, Prince William, and daughter-in-law, Kate Middleton, is also busy crafting their own path.
At the end of the day, Koenig said that it is almost guaranteed that Prince William will have a much longer reign than King Charles III. After all, the Prince of Wales will be crowned monarch soon.
King Charles III Predicted To Abdicate
Shortly after King Charles III was named King, speculations also heightened that he would one day abdicate from the throne.
Even Nostradamus reportedly predicted that King Charles III wouldn’t sit on the throne for very long. However, it is Prince Harry and not Prince William that would take over his role.
Author Mario Reading is confident that Nostradamus’ predictions would come true because he was also able to predict the death of Queen Elizabeth at 96 years old.
“The preamble is that Queen Elizabeth II will die, circa 2022, at the age of around 96, five years short of her mother’s term of life. Prince Charles will be 74 years old in 2022 when he takes over the throne. But the resentments held against him by a certain proportion of the British population, following his divorce from Diana, Princess of Wales, still persist,” Reading wrote in Nostradamus: Complete Prophecies for the Future (via Express).
Reading is convinced that Prince Harry would replace King Charles III based on one line in Nostradamus’ predictions.
“[A] man will replace him who never expected to be King. Does that mean Prince William, who would have expected to succeed his father, is no longer in the picture? Prince Harry, by process of default, becomes King in his stead. That would make him King Henry IX, aged just 38,” Reading said.
