In the book Prince Charles: The Passions and Paradoxes of an Improbable Life, royal author Sally Bedell Smith claimed that King Charles had an affair with entrepreneur Sue Townsend while he was married to Princess Diana and dating Queen Consort Camilla on the side.
Upon learning about the affair, the royal author claimed that Queen Consort Camilla was shocked and enraged.
"She always believed she had Charles very much under her thumb. He shared her bed for years, before and during his marriage to Diana — and ignored that SHE was married to one of his friends, Andrew Parker Bowles. The idea he had the hots for another woman — especially one described as a younger, prettier Camilla look-alike — sent her into a jealous frenzy. I'm told she exploded when she learned about Sue," the author wrote (via Radar Online).

Queen Consort Camilla Allegedly Hammered Her Fists On King Charles' Chest During An Argument
In an attempt to console Queen Consort Camilla, the author claimed that King Charles told her that Townsend was nothing more than a friend. However, Queen Consort Camilla did not believe him. Instead, she allegedly hammered her fists on King Charles' chest before storming out of the room.
When asked if the rumors are true that she had an affair with King Charles, Townsend said that she doesn't think they will ever go down that road.
"Yes, we were close, but that was a long time ago," Townsend added.
King Charles Had An Affair With Queen Consort Camilla While He Was Married To Princess Diana?
Meanwhile, King Charles' previous affair with Queen Consort Camilla while she was married to Princess Diana made headlines back in the 80s and 90s.
Following King Charles and Princess Diana's separation, the latter sat down for an interview with Martin Bashir, where she detailed her feelings about her husband's affair.
"Well, there were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded. I think everybody was very anxious because they could see there were complications but didn't want to interfere, but were there, made it known that they were there if required," Princess Diana said (via PBS).
