It goes without saying that fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been itching to get updates regarding the much-awaited arrival of the mutants to Earth-616. However, Kevin Feige has made it clear that the X-Men reboot is still years away from happening which of course makes logical sense, especially considering how stacked the next two phases already are.

Despite that, the Multiverse Saga is heavily rumored to feature familiar faces from past Marvel films that took place outside the main MCU continuity. On top of that, Hugh Jackman is coming out of his brief retirement to reprise his role as Wolverine in Deadpool 3 which took many fans by surprise. Well, it turns out that the MCU patriarch has a pretty good reason for doing so.

According to insider Grace Randolph, there's a reason why Marvel Studios will be revisiting characters from the Foxverse throughout Phases 5 and 6. Kevin Feige reportedly wants to give the now-defunct universe a proper send-off before formally introducing the X-Men to the fold, presumably in Phase 7. The report claims that it will take place in Avengers: Secret Wars which marks the end of the Multiverse Saga.

Now, it would be safe to assume that the studio plans to start on a clean slate with its X-Men reboot so the chances of Jackman sticking around post-Multiverse Saga don't seem likely. Of course, nothing has officially been set in stone and plans can always change, but it would make sense for Marvel Studios to usher in a new era for the mutants with new actors.

Marvel Studios' Avengers: Secret Wars is currently slated for release on May 1, 2026.
