Keanu Reeves Subtly Reveals How Neo Will Return in The Matrix 4

Keanu Reeves is reprising his role as Neo in TheMatrix 4, but ever since its announcement, fans have been wondering how the new film will build on the sci-fi series. Reeves already confirmed that the film will not be a prequel, so fans are wondering how Neo will return after his sacrifice in The Matrix Revolutions. After all, it's been 18 years since the release of the last film. However, the actor subtly revealed how the The Matrix 4 will revive his character.

In The Matrix Revolutions, Neo (Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) seemingly died at the end, but we already know that The Matrix 4 will continue to explore their relationship. Reeves already confirmed that the sequel is a love story. This most likely means that we'll see more of Neo and Trinity's connection, but it's unclear how The Matrix 4 will bring their characters back to life.

In September 2020, BBC interviewed Reeves to talk about The Matrix 4. This is the same interview where he confirmed that the film will not be a prequel. The actor described "another version, a call to wake up" and teased that "all will be revealed."

One of the major reveals from the original The Matrix trilogy is at the end of The Matrix Reloaded, when Neo learns that he is the latest in a long line of people who served as the One. So what Reeves said about "another version" in The Matrix 4 could easily show how he will return in the film. It's likely that the One and the cycle of the Matrix will begin again in The Matrix 4. This could be a start of new The Matrix trilogy, but director Lana Wachowski and Warner Bros. haven't confirmed yet.

The Matrix 4 is set to release in theaters on December 21, 2021.
