Keanu Reeves' career has had its ups and downs, as it has for most actors who have been in Hollywood for decades. Despite the fact that he has a long list of film classics, he also has a long list of flops.

Few of Reeves' films, however, have flopped as badly as a little-known thriller he featured in 2000. Not unexpectedly, the film in issue is also one of his least favorite from his own body of work.

Keanu Reeves was Tricked into Starring in The Watcher

Keanu Reeves starred in the 2000 horror flick The Watcher, as some may recall. He played a serial killer in the film, which he co-starred in with Oscar winner Marisa Tomei. However, if Reeves had his way, he would not have had anything to do with the film in the first place.

“I never found the script interesting, but a friend of mine forged my signature on the agreement,” Reeves told the Calgary Sun newspaper (via The Guardian.) “I couldn’t prove he did and I didn’t want to get sued, so I had no other choice but to do the film.”

The Watcher was a ‘Disaster’

Hollywood also alleged that Keanu Reeves star sought to back out of the film. However, his lawyers strongly counseled him against making the attempt.

However, Reeves' suspicions were correct, as the film received an almost overwhelming quantity of negative feedback. In a much later interview, Reeves admitted that he agreed with the critics. Although he initially mistook The Watcher for another horror film in which he starred.

Reeves spoke with IndieWire about his 2015 horror film Knock Knock. The publication mentioned that he hadn’t starred in a horror movie for quite a while.

In response, he told them that “it was a disaster. I hate that movie. It’s terrible. It’s a disaster.”

But Reeves quickly realized his mistake. He wasn't referring to The Gift, but rather to the critically criticized picture.

“Oh, The Gift! I was thinking The Watcher. Oh, The Gift is fantastic. Sam Raimi! That’s great. You said The Gift and my brain went to The Watcher. Donny Barksdale. So fantastic,” he corrected.

The Watcher aside, Reeves' filmography includes numerous big-screen masterpieces such as The Matrix trilogy, Bill & Ted trilogy, Point Break, Speed, and even Toy Story 4. With over 30 years in the industry, it's safe to say there's a Reeves movie for everyone.
