Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle were pitted against each other when the latter joined the firm. However, Markle left the palace just over a year after she married Prince Harry. Princess Diana's former butler weighed in on the two women's strategies.
Kate Middleton Reportedly Knows How To Play The Long Game Unlike Meghan Markle
Paul Burrell, who served Prince William and Prince Harry's mom, was impressed by how the Princess of Wales handled the royal life. This may not be surprising because Prince William and Middleton dated for nearly a decade before they tied the knot. Several experts were convinced that the heir to the throne prepared her for her role so well.
"I think Kate is incredible, I think she's never put a foot wrong and she knows how to play this game, it's a long game, not a short game," Burrell said on behalf of Slingo (via Express). "Meghan's was a very short game. Kate's is a very long one."
He also weighed in on Princess Diana's reaction, and she believed that the late Princess of Wales would be very proud of Prince William's wife.
While Burrell believed Princess Diana would be happy with Prince William's choice of wife, he didn't think the late royal would feel the same with Prince Harry's bride, Meghan Markle. Burrell believed that if Princess Diana were alive, she would have preferred his exes, Chelsy Davy or Cressida Bonas.
Kate Middleton Is Replacing Princess Diana?
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been promoted to be the new Prince and Princess of Wales after King Charles ascended the throne following Queen Elizabeth's death in September.
According to Burrell, in a way, Prince William's wife is replacing his mom.
"William was to always think 'mummy should've been here,' 'this was mummy's path, she should've been Queen and now my wife is going to replace her,'" Burrell claimed.
