Kaldheim & Strixhaven Will Also Have Magic: The Gathering Modal Double-Faced Cards

Wizards of the Coast recently introduced an innovative new mechanic for the upcoming Magic: The Gathering set Zendikar Rising called Modal Double-Faced Card (MDFC), but the upcoming fall expansion is not the only set in the near future that will feature MDFCs.

Mashable recently talked to Magic head designer Mark Rosewater, and the outlet confirmed that the next two sets following Zendikar Rising, Kaldheim and Strixhaven, will also feature modal double-faced cards. That's great to know. I think MDFCs can help minimize mana issues like being mana screwed or flooded because of their versatility. Rosewater also recently said that the other four rare "Pathway" MDFC lands that did not make it in the Zendikar Rising cycle are coming "very soon". Hopefully, Kaldheim and Strixhaven will feature other kinds of MDFCs that are not just land-based.

Earlier this week, Wizards announced the upcoming Magic sets that will be released in 2021, revealing the release schedule in a set roadmap:

The company also revealed that Kaldheim will be a Viking-inspired set, and Strixhaven will feature the most elite University in the Multiverse. It features five colleges that will battle it out with their own take on Magic.

Zendikar Rising is set to release on September 25, 2020; it will release on MTG Arena on Sept. 17.
