While the anime won’t be released anytime soon, the Kaiju No. 8 anime already released a first look at its characters, though fans are worried given the difference in art style.

Recently, the anime’s official Twitter account shared the character design posters for its main characters Kafka Hibino and Mina Ashino. Kafka’s kaiju form was also shared.

While some fans of the manga are happy with their design, others are highly critical of how the anime’s art deviated noticeably from the manga’s style.

Kaiju No. 8 is a manga series by Naoya Matsumoto, and it is one of the most popular titles on Jump+.

Because of this, an anime adaptation was inevitable, so it’s no surprise that an anime by Production I.G was revealed a few months back.

While the reveal trailer gave us some small snippets, we’ve yet to get a proper look at the characters. Now though, a series of character visuals were shared online.

It will be a while before we see a proper trailer, but these visuals do give us an idea of what to expect:

Based on the comments on these tweets, it seems that many Kaiju No. 8 manga readers are unhappy with the designs.

Some have even shared some side-by-side comparisons between the manga and these anime visuals.

Overall, it’s fair to say that the reception is mixed as some like the design while others need to see some actual clips before passing judgment.

On the flip side, there are fans in the sakuga community that are excited to see more of Kaiju No. 8 and are defending the show from the negative feedback from some fans.

One of the reasons there’s excitement for this is that veteran animator Tetsuya Nishio is involved with the series production.

As Nishio is a well-known figure among enthusiasts, many are expecting Kaiju No. 8 to have fantastic fight scenes.

Nishio is an animator and character designer who is renowned for his work on various Production I.G titles such as FLCL.

He is also known for his character design work on Naruto and Naruto: Shippuden.

For now, there’s no word yet on when Kaiju No. 8 will be released as the show is only confirmed to premiere in 2024.

This means we’ll likely have to wait a while before we see actual scenes via a trailer.
