Team-ups and crossovers are common in the comic book world. But it seems that every 90s kid will be happy to know that the greatest Justice League heroes in tights—well, back then—and the Morphin Power Rangers will be doing a team-up in a six-issue series next year.
The crossover comic will be penned by Tom Taylor, known for his work with Injustice: Gods Among Us and Green Lantern: Edge of Oblivion, and drawn by Stephen Byrne (Justice League of America: Rebirth: The Ray).
Comicbook.com obtained a press release that confirmed the crossover miniseries happening early next year.
"Something terrible has happened in Angel Grove when the Power Rangers' Command Center is breached and the teleporters are damaged! Zack the Black Ranger is flung into an alternate universe full of citizens possessing outrageous powers and wearing strange costumes. Will Jason the Red Ranger, Trini the Yellow Ranger, Kimberly the Pink Ranger, Billy the Blue Ranger, and Tommy the Green Ranger be able to get to Zack in time to save him from Batman?"
As seen in the accompanying visual, the six core members if Justice League will be paired with the members of the Power Rangers. But the pairings, which will serve as variant covers drawn by a different artist each time, are actually surprising:
> Batman/Pink Ranger: Dan Hipp
> Cyborg/Blue Ranger: Dustin Nguyen
> The Flash/Black Ranger: Yasmine Putri
> Green Lantern John Stewart/Yellow Ranger: Marguerite Sauvage
> Superman/Green Ranger: Chris Sprouse
> Wonder Woman/Red Ranger: Marcus To
What's interesting for me is that the story seems to suggest that the two big teams will be combining their powers and abilities. But the threat of Batman (why am I not surprised) involving the Black Ranger is quite the puzzle.
Justice League/Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #1 will be on shelves on Jan. 11, 2017.
