Justice League Dark Will be An Intimate Take on Unknown DC Heroes

DC films haven't yet won the hearts of fans and moviegoers as much as it does in other franchises—and that's saying something, given that the movies that came out featured the most popular of the franchise's superheroes.

But director Doug Liman seems confident that even with a band of lesser known heroes in the DC world, Justice League Dark may deliver a different kind of experience. In an interview with Cinema Blend, Liman stated that his goal with this particular arm of Justice League would be to deliver a "personal" approach to what blockbuster means.

"I think people will be surprised how character driven and how intimate Justice League Dark is—in kind of a field of bloated comic book movies. We've found a way to do something that's actually really personal and small, and that's my goal. [My new movie] The Wall is about character. The scenario allows me to dive into what I think is… I just love people! I love putting people in crazy situations. For John Constantine, we have an amazing set-up for him for Justice League Dark that's really human."

Justice League Dark is the kind of story that brings together an odd band of heroes, and even before, Liman has been reiterating that his approach will be anything but conventional.

My money is on the approach towards humanizing characters—because them being heroes make the contrast even more stark and glaring. Most stories begin with a good narrative anyway, and that's what we've been asking of the DC Comics films since the beginning.

Let's just hope that Warner Bros won't ruin the chances for this unconventional take. Justice League Dark will showcase a lineup that features John Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman, Swamp Thing, and Etrigan the Demon.
