If you can't quite get enough of all things Jurassic World lately, then you've come to the right place. While we wait for Jurassic World: Dominion to hit theaters on June 10, 2022, something big is coming that will undoubtedly keep our prehistoric appetites satisfied until the long-awaited sixth installment.

While a special five-minute preview was released last month, a "prologue" to Jurassic World: Dominion, which had its own teaser trailer recently, the short film isn't quite as accessible as one might think – not only is it in theaters, which many people aren't visiting right now, it's also only available in IMAX and alongside Fast & Furious 9, of which you might not be a fan.

But never mind, because those ambitious scientists (known as game developers) have cooked up something else in their labs: Jurassic World: Evolution 2, the official sequel to the hit 2018 game Jurassic World: Evolution, which allowed players to build their own Jurassic World and genetically engineer dinosaurs.

Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Jurassic World: Evolution 2.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 Trailer

As you can see, the camera sweeps over what is undoubtedly North America as it follows the flight path of a pterosaur, while government-appointed park rangers herd a stampede of herbivores. We see a facility buried in the wilderness, likely established to control the dinosaur populations, with brachiosaurs emerging from the treeline while snow-capped mountains dominate the horizon – a setting we know to be featured in Jurassic World: Dominion.

Then we see a nasutoceratops resting at a water source when a veterinary vehicle pulls up next to it before the perspective switches to a compy as it rushes into a forest where, before the screen goes black, a large foot lands on the forest floor, presumably that of a t-rex. After the title card, we cut to a mosasaur haunting the depths of a dark sea.

The footage plays to be sound of a haunting score, fused with familiar Jurassic riffs, but what really makes the trailer is the narration from Dr. Ian Malcolm (voiced by none other than Jeff Goldblum, who also lent his soothing vocals to the first game). He says, "We ignored all the warnings. Forgot the lessons. We abused our power. We played with genetics like, uh, like it was… a toy. We weren't careful, and now, ah, here we are. This is a very different world."

Once again, he's giving us the old "I-told-you-so" speech, but this time it comes a little too late, judging by everything that's going on in the trailer.

Jurassic World Evolution 2 Plot

Being a sequel to Jurassic World: Evolution, which is a park builder-themed game, just like 2003's Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, it's difficult to describe any sort of ‘plot', but there's still a story within the game. If you've been following the news for Jurassic World: Dominion, you'll probably already know that the film will focus on dinosaurs living in mainland North America.

Jurassic World: Dominion will take place in the wild – for example, the Sierra Nevada forest, where Rexy is known to be living – rather than urban areas such as towns and cities. But the end of Fallen Kingdom does see Blue looking down upon a small town from a cliff edge, Rexy breaking into a zoo's lion enclosure, a mosasaur closing in on an unsuspecting surfer, and pteranodons flying over Las Vegas, so we know that humans will be involved, and this will be reflected in the new game.

For starters, the trailer alone offers plenty of insight, and shows that you'll be able to manage dinosaurs via government-appointed park rangers (which the website calls the DFW - Department of Fish and Wildlife) who work to control populations and keep the animals within their boundaries. As for whether you'll be able to create dinosaurs – with the game being set on the mainland and all – is unknown, though it will feel at odds with its predecessor if this isn't an option.

The official Jurassic World: Evolution 2 website reveals plenty about the plot, saying that the game is "An original Jurassic story", and that players will be able to immerse themselves "in a compelling and original Jurassic World narrative set after the earth-shattering events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom", and that you'll "lead the efforts of the DFW (Department of Fish and Wildlife) to control, conserve, and contain wild dinosaurs now rampaging across the USA."

Jurassic World Evolution 2 Gameplay

The original Jurassic World Evolution is a business simulation game that enables players to build their very own Jurassic World. 'God-like' abilities include sculpting the terrain, constructing buildings, caring for each dinosaur, protecting guests during storms and other emergencies, and dealing with board members, all the while making a profit as you go.

In terms of player perspective, you essentially play the camera, being able to move around so that you can build the most effective dinosaur theme park. However, other options include controlling vehicles from a third person. With all that in mind, it begs to question exactly how Jurassic World: Evolution 2 will work. No more are you on an island with carte blanche to build a theme park, and presumably, it won't involve turning a profit either.

However, it will retain many aspects of its predecessor, while also introducing even more new features. Caring for the dinosaurs, keeping them away from humans, and constructing appropriately located veterinary centers ahd other such buildings will feature in the game. Here's what the official website says about the gameplay:

"Jurassic World Evolution 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to Frontier's highly successful Jurassic World Evolution, building upon the groundbreaking and immersive 2018 management simulation. It introduces a compelling, new narrative campaign, incredible new features, and awe-inspiring new dinosaurs brought to life with captivating authenticity. Together with expanded construction and more customization options, the result is an even bigger, better, and authentic Jurassic World game."

And there's also the following:

CREATE YOUR OWN JURASSIC WORLD: Take control with deeper management tools and creative options. Construct and customize new buildings, and flex your managerial muscle across never-before-seen locations.

PLAY WITH CHAOS THEORY: Chaos Theory mode lets you play through key moments of your favorite films - with a twist. Experience "what-if" scenarios from iconic Jurassic World and Jurassic Park films.

This suggests that the management aspect of the game will indeed remain, while the ‘Chaos Theory' feature promises to give players plenty of iconic scenes to get their teeth into. Another notable detail from the trailer is the inclusion of dinosaurs such as pteranodon and mosasaurs, airborne and sea-dwelling reptiles that were absent from the previous installment. The website confirms that over 75 different species, including these ones, will feature in the game.

A teaser trailer was released on June 10, showing cutscene footage of dinosaurs living on mainland North America.

It has been confirmed that Bryce Dallas Howard will also be lending her voice to the game, reprising her role as Claire Dearing. No other actors from the original game have been confirmed to be returning so far, but at least you can expect a huge roster of returning characters in Jurassic World: Dominion.

The official YouTube channel for Jurassic World: Evolution 2 has started sharing regular content such as 'Species Field Guides', 'Park Management Guides', 'Monthly Highlights' and a 'Development Diary', all of which showcase the games features and gameplay.

Over the past several weeks, the official Jurassic World: Evolution 2 website has expanded, and now offers a look at the game's Database of dinosaurs, as well as revealing more in terms of the game's story, dinosaurs and park-building features.

The website now also states that if you pre-order a copy of the game, you'll receive three vehicle skins inspired by The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

The release date for the game was recently confirmed as November 9th, this year, which, while great news for fans, is still a bit strange considering that Jurassic World: Dominion doesn't hit theaters until June 10, 2022. While it's unlikely the game will feature any real spoilers for the film, there do seem to be plenty of elements from the sixth installment.

So, the game seems to be yet another business management-style affair, while other major franchise titles such as Avatar, Harry Potter, and Star Wars are getting their own open-world games. Nevertheless, with Jurassic World: Evolution 2 is set on the mainland, it's fair to say that there will be a huge novelty here that's never seen before in the Jurassic games.

But that's how it always starts – "Ooh", "Aah". Later, there's running and, uh, screaming...
