Back in the summer, director Colin Trevorrow hinted that the first trailer for next year's Jurassic World: Dominion is set to drop very soon, saying, "It's going to be sooner than you think. I can't talk about it just yet. We've got something fun planned, and it has everything to do with getting people back into the movie theaters."

However, on June 9, it was announced that a special five-minute preview of Jurassic World: Dominion would be released alongside Fast & Furious 9 on June 24, which sounds like the incentive Trevorrow was alluding to.

On June 21, a short teaser was released for the preview, which showed dinosaurs in both their natural habitat and true place in time, 65 million years ago. And on November 23, the preview was actually released onto YouTube for everyone to enjoy in the lead up to the new film.

Originally scheduled for release in July 2021, the film was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Following on from 2018's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the ominously titled Dominion will conclude the Jurassic World trilogy that began in 2015.

So, with yet another imminent dinosaur breakout, here's everything you need to know about Jurassic World: Dominion so far. Hold onto your butts…

Jurassic World Dominion Cast: Who's in it?

The new movie will see the return of several Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom characters. Bryce Dallas Howard, Chris Pratt, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith, B.D. Wong, Isabella Sermon, and Omar Sy, will all be reprising their roles as Claire Dearing, Owen Grady, Zia Rodriguez, Franklin Webb, Henry Wu, Maisie Lockwood, and Barry, respectively.

And much to the delight of fans, we also know that Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum will be stepping back into the roles of iconic fan favorites Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler, and Ian Malcolm.

Other newcomers who will be joining all the running and screaming are Mamoudou Athie, Scott Haze, Dichen Lachman, DeWanda Wise, and Campbell Scott, who will be playing Lewis Dodgson, a character from the original 1993 movie, then played by Cameron Thor.

As of October, it is rumored that Ariana Richards, who played Lex Murphy in the first two films, will be reprising her role in the 2022 sequel.

Jurassic World Dominion Plot: What's it about?

The final moments of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom saw the release of dinosaurs onto mainland North America (as well as a mosasaur in the ocean). And we've already seen a ‘snapshot' of what to expect in the form of Colin Trevorrow's canonical short film Battle at Big Rock, which pits an American family against an Allosaurus during a camping trip.

Chris Pratt has also confirmed that there will be a "significant time-jump" - which director Colin Trevorrow has confirmed to be four years, mirroring the real gap between the new instalment and the previous one - so it sounds like mankind's coexistence with dinosaurs will be a readily established problem in Jurassic World: Dominion.

We also know that, from photo stills released by Universal Pictures, part of the film will take place in a snowy setting, which will be a refreshing change for a franchise rooted in jungle environments. How returning characters will fit into the story is unclear, but director Colin Trevorrow has stated that "legacy characters" will be "part of the story in an organic way".

And in an interview with ScreenRant back in the summer, he expanded on this, saying, "They are in the whole movie. They are major characters and they go on an adventure together, and they collide with our modern characters".

Jurassic World Dominion Dinosaurs: What new species can we expect?

The many species of dinosaurs that escaped into the wild in Fallen Kingdom included the original tyrannosaurus rex and velociraptor Blue. It's likely that carnotaurs, pterosaurs, gallimimus, and even the sea-dwelling mosasaurus will make a comeback, all of which were among the escaped dinosaurs. The reoccurring compys, as well as lystrosaurus - a strange, dog-like dinosaur unique to the franchise - have already been confirmed in production stills.

As for the Indoraptor or Indominus Rex, Colin Trevorrow has previously suggested that there may be no more dinosaur hybrids, saying that the film will have a "back to basics" approach to the dinosaurs.

So what authentic species have the filmmakers cooked up in their lab? Sam Neill, who plays world-renowned palaeontologist Alan Grant in the films, confirmed that giganotosaurus is one dinosaur we can expect to see in the new film (which also appears in the preview).

Seven new dinosaur species appear in the five-minute preview, including the giganotosaurus. The preview that aired on November 23 included: Ankylosaurus, Pteranadons, Apatosaurus, Iguanadon, Nasutoceratops, Oviraptor, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Quetzalcoatlus, Moros Intrepidus and Giganotosaurus.

Jurassic World Dominion Giganotosaurus: What is it?

Giganotosaurus was a large carnivorous theropod that lived during the Late Cretaceous Period, usurping t-rex in size. Besides eating people, its role in Jurassic World: Dominion raises some questions.

For starters, we know that giganotosaurus wasn't one of the species at Lockwood Manor, so might Henry Wu – or another equally reckless geneticist - engineer this species on mainland US, or elsewhere on the planet, seeing as Trevorrow confirmed that the film will span the whole world.

Such a scenario was also hinted in both previous films by Wu, in that others may copy his work. So it's possible that other scientists around the planet have been busy engineering their own dinosaurs between Fallen Kingdom and Dominion, which might indeed suggest that the dinosaur problem will be bigger than just North America.

Either way, it sounds like "Giga" will be pretty terrifying, and we know it ends up in a fight with a t-rex in the five-minute preview. Whether or not it will actually feature in the main film remains to be seen.

Jurassic World Dominion News: What else do we know?

A set photo was recently released showing Chris Pratt and Omar Sy standing on a boat in a man-made cave system. In May, Colin Trevorrow and composer Michael Giacchino released a snippet of the film's score.

In 2020, producer Frank Marshall said that Jurassic World: Dominion may not be the final film in the franchise. On June 10, the official Jurassic World Twitter page released a brand new poster for the film, which depicts a mosquito resting on a dinosaur's foot, under the tagline "It all started here".

Colin Trevorrow has confirmed that Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum, who will be reprising their roles as Alan Grant, Ellie Sattler and Ian Malcolm, respectively, will all have full roles in the movie and not cameos. Despite initial casting, Jake Johnson recently announced that he will not be appearing in Jurassic World: Dominion due to scheduling conflicts.

The director also likened the film to James Bond, having previously stated that the film will be of a 'globe-hopping' nature, not unlike the iconic spy films. In his interview with ScreenRant, Trevorrow said that the film will be a "science thriller that explores genetic power", while also confirming that it will be set in 'real-time', like all the other films before it, including Battle at Big Rock, which will place Dominion firmly in 2022, four years after the events of Fallen Kingdom.

An official image from the film was also shared at the same, showing a "feathered" dinosaur standing next to the jaws of a much larger predator, which is a scene from the five-minute preview.

On June 21, a teaser trailer for the upcoming preview was released, and showed several dinosaurs in a late Cretaceous setting, as well as a fight between Giganotosaurus and Tyrannosaurus Rex.

The preview was released alongside IMAX screenings of Fast & Furious 9 on June 24, as an incentive to encourage people back into movie theaters. The short film shows dinosaurs roaming the earth 65 million years ago, long before John Hammond and InGen ever get their hands on the first fossilized mosquito.

A 'first look' trailer for the actual film was revealed at August's CinemaCon, which is yet to make its way online.

In October, Lex Murphy actress Ariana Richards hinted at a possible return for her character in the sequel.

On November 9, director Colin Trevorrow confirmed on Twitter that production had finally wrapped.

As of November 23, the special 'Jurassic World: Dominion' is now available to watch on YouTube.

The film has officially been given a PG-13 rating.

A brand-new image was released which shows Bryce Dallas Howard's Claire Dearing neck-deep in a swamp while being stalked by a therizinosaurus. A second image shows Chris Pratt's Owen Grady taming a parasaurolophus in a snowy setting, which has been accompanied with plot details from Colin Trevorrow, which focus on Claire Dearing and Campbell Scott's Lewis Dodgson.

With a special 5-minute short film having released alongside Fast & Furious 9 in IMAX, it remains to be seen whether an official trailer will emerge soon. In his interview with ScreenRant, when asked about a potential trailer, director Colin Trevorrow said,

"I don't know yet, but this is what we're doing for everyone - hopefully many people will be able to see this as possible. But I promise there will be trailers galore. I just can't wait for everyone to come and see the movie next year. It's going to be a blast."

After having to wait an extra year before seeing the film, at this point we'll be happy with a cup of rippling water.
