Jurassic World: Dominion Director Responds to Critical Fan

Jurassic World: Dominion (2022) brings back several characters from the Jurassic Park series. One of them is the original T-Rex, who also appears in the two previous Jurassic World movies. However, some fans aren't happy with how the fan-favorite dinosaur has been portrayed in the latest sequel.

The latest film in the Jurassic Park franchise is currently taking the box office by storm, despite being mauled by critics left, right, and center. However, many criticisms are also coming from the fanbase itself.

Some fans aren't happy about how director Colin Trevorrow has portrayed the fan-favorite tyrannosaurus rex more affectionately known as "Rexy". But the director has hit back on Twitter.

One particular complaint revolves around the original T-Rex, which has appeared in Jurassic Park (1993), Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and now, Jurassic World: Dominion.

Despite having a major role in the Jurassic World: Dominion prologue, in which she rampages through a drive-in cinema while being chased by U.S. Fish and Wildlife, Rexy doesn't get as much screen time in the film as you might think.

However, that doesn't mean she isn't put to good use, as she shows up to save our Jurassic heroes from the formidable Cretaceous apex predator Giganotosaurus in the film's climactic (and signature) dinosaur battle.

But this is where one fan has taken issue with the film. Actor Angel Rosario Jr (who will be appearing in this year's Black Adam) tweeted Colin Trevorrow about his dissatisfaction with how Rexy is portrayed during the fight.

Here's what the actor said to the Jurassic World: Dominion director:

“Hey, @colintrevorrow… ya made the Rex look weak. Again. Come on now!" he wrote. "It's the face of the franchise. Terrible. The Giga might have been strong, but science proves the Rex was a better predator, and stronger. Very disappointed in your utilization of Rexy."

The director, who also helmed Jurassic World and co-wrote Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, both of which feature Rexy, responded. He wrote:

"I understand the feeling. Worth noting the T. Rex had an average lifespan of 28 years, so our Rexy would be near the end of her life in Dominion. Even at that age, she found the strength to rise up and avenge her own death, 65 million years later. Sometimes revenge takes time."

Rosario tweeted in response:

"Got a response from the great @colintrevorrow about Dominion. Though conflicting arguments about the Rex…as an actor, I’d love to work on a project with you, sir. "Respect and admiration for your work, sir. Hope we can talk about it face to face someday!"

It's great to see a director defending his work with a solid argument. Rexy is indeed way past the average lifespan of a t-rex. As stated in Fallen Kingdom, she ought to be dead, but as she's a clone, her lifespan is harder to estimate.

But if you cast your mind back to the original Jurassic World in 2015, Rexy was put on her butt by the Indominus Rex just as quickly as she is by the Giga in the latest film. After all, she's a very old dinosaur who has been through a lot.

Jurassic World: Dominion is described as the "epic culmination to the entire series" and the "end to the Jurassic era". As per the official Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment website, here’s the synopsis for the film:

Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live -- and hunt -- alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.
