Jurassic World: Dominion is the sixth movie in the series, which follows Jurassic Park (1993), The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), Jurassic Park III (2001), Jurassic World (2015), and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018).

But it's really a sequel to Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, which centers around the destruction of original Jurassic Park island Isla Nublar, due to an unprecedented volcanic eruption.

As such, humanity is conflicted - do we let the dinosaurs die, a "natural correction" if you will, or do we save them? While debate rages, Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) and Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) rush to their rescue.

However, their military escort turns out to be part of a rouse, as the dinosaurs are instead to be sold at a black-market auction in Lockwood Manor in Northern California. But this is where everything will change.

Consequently, the dinosaurs are released into the North American wilderness. And the closing few scenes in the film depict several different species of dinosaurs settling in new environments throughout the country.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom certainly breaks new ground for the franchise by destroying the island and bringing the dinosaurs to the mainland once and for all, which was first teased in The Lost World: Jurassic Park.

But the 2018 sequel is also the first film in the Jurassic Park series to have a post-credits scene, which comes in the form of pterosaurs flying over Las Vegas, a taster of things to come.

And the marketing kept this concept going over the next four years, with the Colin Trevorrow-directed canonical short film Battle at Big Rock (2019), which offers a snapshot of what life is like in the American wilderness one year later.

And so we arrive at Jurassic World: Dominion, which is the "epic culmination to the entire series" and the "end to the Jurassic era". As per the official Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment website, here’s the synopsis for the film:

Dominion takes place four years after Isla Nublar has been destroyed. Dinosaurs now live -- and hunt -- alongside humans all over the world. This fragile balance will reshape the future and determine, once and for all, whether human beings are to remain the apex predators on a planet they now share with history’s most fearsome creatures.

Jurassic World: Dominion unites Jurassic Park characters Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) with Jurassic World characters for the first time, a fitting end to this six-film series.

Once teamed up with Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), and Maisie Lockwood (Isabella Sermon), they must stop greedy bioengineering corporation Biosyn from unleashing a global threat.

While the film is being marketed as the final entry in the franchise, you still might expect there to be a mid-credits or post-credits scene of some kind. After all, knowing Hollywood, this series won't stay dormant for too long.

Not only that, but seeing as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has a post-credits scene, naturally, one might expect its sequel to follow suit, and perhaps tease a future film or even a live-action TV series, despite neither being in the works.

Unfortunately, there is nothing during or after the credits to Jurassic World: Dominion. So if you left your theater seat as soon as the credits started rolling, don't worry, because other than the excellent score, you didn't miss anything.

But that's not to say that this is the end of Jurassic Park. Jurassic World made $1.9 billion at the box office, and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom over $1.3 billion. And now, Jurassic World: Dominion is taking the box office by storm.

In other words, we can't imagine Universal Pictures letting this franchise go extinct any time soon.
