Jujutsu Kaisen has an extensive supporting cast, and the more we get to know them, the more questions we have. For instance, how did Utahime get her scar and when in the Jujutsu Kaisen timeline did it happen?

Utahime Iori: All You Need to Know About Gojo's Senpai
When we first meet Utahime Iori in Season 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen, she is a student supervisor at Kyoto Jujutsu High. She's a semi-first-grade jujutsu sorcerer.
In the Hidden Inventory arc, which explores Gojo's past, we find out that he and Utahime used to go to the same school.
Utahime was two years older but was not considered as strong as Gojo or Geto.
In fact, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 opens with Utahime and Mei Mei on a mission together.
When they get trapped in a cursed spirit's barrier, Gojo comes to their rescue.
In the narrative present, Utahime and Gojo are still friends and sometimes spend time together, even though Gojo's nonchalant manner occasionally infuriates her.
When Did Utahime Get Scarred?
Utahime has a scar on the right side of her face which she got sometime between the Hidden Inventory arc and the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1.
So far, the Jujutsu Kaisen manga and anime have not revealed when exactly Utahime acquired her scar.

How Did Utahime Get Her Scar?
Neither the anime nor the manga shows how Utahime got her scar, but we presume it happened in action, during a mission.
Given that both the manga and the anime have an entire flashback arc dedicated to Gojo and his friends' pasts, we don't expect another extensive flashback, just to explain Utahime's scar.
On one hand, many fans feel that mangaka Gege Akutami wouldn't give a character such a big scar without having a story in mind.
Scars in literature and media are often used as a way to reveal a character's background.
On the other hand, scars seem to be quite common in the world of jujutsu sorcerers.
Anyone in the profession is in danger of acquiring a few, so perhaps sorcerers don't pay them as much attention as an outsider might.
In a 2021 interview, Gege Akutami reportedly mentioned that the scars of Utahime, Todo, and Mechamaru aren't correlated.
Furthermore, the mangaka reportedly confirmed that getting scars is, indeed, a normal part of a jujutsu sorcerer's job.
This means that a sorcerer would likely not consider the story of how they got their scars a very interesting or significant one.
Therefore, if Utahime's scar story is ever mentioned, it will most likely be in passing, as it doesn't seem to have happened in a very extraordinary event.
