Jujutsu Kaisen Manga Topples Down My Hero Academia with New Sales Record

Jujutsu Kaisen may be relatively new when it comes to being a staple name in the industry but it is already making waves as it hits a new sales record that topples down another popular title, My Hero Academia, which has been soaring high for the past few years.

The official Twitter page of Jujutsu Kaisen humbly dropped the news that the manga series has now sold over 65 million copies in circulation and this only means that it has outsold another staple name in the industry, My Hero Academia. Considering that the former released only in 2018, to topple down the sales record of the latter which came out in 2014 is already an amazing feat in itself.

Jujustu Kaisen is based on a shōnen manga series of the same name by Gege Akutami which is published in Shueisha's Weekly Shōnen Jump since March 2018. Every chapter is collected to a volume and as of January 2021, fourteen tankōbon volumes have been released. The manga series is licensed by Viz Media to put on print and Shueisha publishes it in English via the Manga Plus app and website.

It follows the story of Yuji Itadori is a member of the Occult Research Club in school and they unfortunately opened a talisman that belongs to Sukuna, a pure evil and powerful Curse. When the events worsened, Yuji swallows the talisman which is a finger of Sukuna. He then becomes the host of Sukuna but surprisingly, Yuji still has control over his body.

On the other hand, My Hero Academia anime series is based on the pages of the Japanese superhero shōnen manga series of Kōhei Horikoshi which started as a one-shot My Hero and Horikoshi, the author himself, wanted to turn the one-shot into a series after the end of Barrage. It is published in the Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump since July 2014 which to date has been collected into 29 tankōbon volumes. It has been published simultaneously in English by Viz Media.

My Hero Academia revolves around the story of Izuku Midoriya, a quirk who is someone born without any superpowers in a world where it is common for one to have superpowers, who dreams of being his very own kind of superhero. The greatest hero of Japan, All Might, who has his own quirk, scouted Midoriya and shares it to Midoriya after he sees potential in him to become a superhero. All Might helped Midoriya in the prestigious school where heroes go to for training.

Jujutsu Kaisen will be having a second season for its anime adaptation which is expected to arrive sometime in 2023. My Hero Academia is set to get its Season 6 in Fall 2022.
