Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 41 is out now, and it’s another incredible episode with creative action scenes. Aside from the praise, many Jujutsu Kaisen fans are confused by Sukuna’s Malevolent Kitchen.

Fans who watched the episode as soon as it aired on Crunchyroll will no doubt find this familiar. That’s because the anime’s latest episode featured a hilarious mistranslation of Sukuna’s Domain Expansion.

As expected, many fans found it hilarious, so much so that there are already memes being shared about it.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Sukuna’s Malevolent Kitchen Mistranslation on Crunchyroll

Sukuna faced Jogo in the previous episode, but he didn’t even break a sweat. In the latest Jujutsu Kaisen episode, though, the King of Curses finally faced a foe that was worthy of his full power.

In a desperate move, Megumi summoned Mahoraga, the fearsome tenth shadow in his technique. Mahoraga is an incredibly powerful being, enough that Sukuna’s attention was piqued.

Despite Mahoraga being nigh-invulnerable, he was defeated by Sukuna who activated his Domain Expansion called Malevolent Shrine.

That wasn’t what it was called on Crunchyroll though, as the initial version of Episode 40’s subtitles there called it the Malevolent Kitchen.

It’s fair to say that fans were confused by this, especially as the horrifying domain looks far from a kitchen. What’s more, Mahoraga was also mistranslated as Makora.

Soon after the episode's release, fans cooked up lots of hilarious memes showing Sukuna in a kitchen.

Some fans wondered if this was a creative decision, but it turned out to be a mistranslation as Crunchyroll soon fixed the subtitles to Malevolent Shrine and Mahoraga.

Despite the seemingly random error, there is some sense in these translations.

Malevolent Kitchen and Makora Surprisingly Make Sense

As pointed out by X (formerly Twitter) user @fathersatorv, the kanji for Sukuna’s Domain Expansion can be read as "kitchen".

Also worth noting is that Sukuna uses various food and cooking puns throughout the series in Japanese, so Malevolent Kitchen makes some sense in that regard.

As for Makora, this is a more literal translation of Mahoraga. After all, the being’s name sounds closer to Makora when said in Japanese.

Even if they made some sense, the official English version of the manga uses Malevolent Shrine and Mahoraga. So, it’s no surprise that the subs on Crunchyroll were changed to reflect this.

Moving forward, you probably won’t see Sukuna’s kitchen anytime soon, as Yuji is back in control of his body as we head to Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 42.
