Anime Expo 2022 saw lots of anime announcements and reveals. While we didn’t more info yet on the anime’s second season, Viz Media revealed that a Jujutsu Kaisen limited edition Blu-Ray is releasing soon.
The upcoming Blu-Ray for the hit anime series was announced at the Viz Industry Panel. There, it was confirmed that the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 will be compiled into a physical Blu-Ray release.
Viz Media has not yet confirmed how many episodes from season 1 the Blu-Ray will compile. Though it's likely that the first 13 episodes of the season will be included in the Blu-Ray.
This is because the 13th episode of the anime can be considered the midpoint of the show. Episode 13 is also the last to use the opening song "Kaikai Kitan," with "VIVID VICE" being the opening theme from episode 14 onwards.
Jujutsu Kaisen is a shonen anime series that’s based on the manga of the same name that is written by Gege Akutani. The anime premiered back in October 2022 and ran for 24 episodes (2 cours) until March 2021.
The series follows Yuji Itadori, a high school student who gets swept up in the world of Curses. In the series’ world, all living beings emanate Cursed Energy originates from negative emotions. This Cursed Energy gives birth to Curses that seek to harm humans.
While normal humans can’t control Cursed Energy, those who do so can become Jujutsu Sorcerers which defend humanity from Curses. Though some become Curse users themselves.
At the start of the series, Yuji swallows a cursed item which turns him into the vessel of a powerful Curse user named Ryomen Sukuna. While he is sentenced to death by the Jujutsu Sorcerers, a powerful sorcerer named Satoru Gojo takes him under his wing to delay his sentence.
Both the Jujutsu Kaisen anime and manga series are big hits, with the manga being one of the best-selling of all time with 65 million copies sold.
Given the success of the series, Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has been confirmed earlier this year, and it is set to release sometime in 2023. Recently, the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie was also released, and it serves as a prequel to the anime series.
As for the Jujutsu Kaisen Blu-Ray, Viz Media has yet to announce a release date for it.
