Jude Law Talks His Character's Role in Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel has managed to gather an impressive cast, and among them is Jude Law who is playing the role of Starforce commander Mar-Vell. Law talks his character's relationship to Carol Danvers and how he helps mold her into the hero she eventually becomes.

According to EW, Mar-Vell sees Danvers as a ‘menteee and pet project.' Law explains:

"These extraordinary powers she has, he sees them as something of a blessing and something that she has to learn how to control… That's a motif throughout the piece, the element of learning to control one's emotions and to use your powers wisely."

We don't exactly know what Mar-Vell's role in the movie is, but in the new images that have been released, you can see him standing beside Guardians of the Galaxy baddie Ronan the Accuser. Then again, in this film, Ronan is still a (high-ranking) member of Kree society; by the time we meet him in Guardians, he's been outcast by the Kree as an extremist.

In the comics, Mar-Vell was the original Captain Marvel before Carol Danvers took the mantle. He was still a member of the Kree race and was even affiliated with the Avengers for a time. It's possible that Law's version won't likely be able to fight with the Avengers anytime soon, but I bet he'll have a lot of great callbacks to the comics when the movie comes out.

Also, am I the only one who's getting a feeling that he dies before the credits start to roll?

Captain Marvel comes out March 8, 2019.
