Johnny Depp recently came out triumphant in his legal battle against his ex-wife, Amber Heard, in a highly publicized defamation trial after Heard accused Depp of domestic violence. Now, Depp is on a fresh start as he takes on the role of King Louis XV in Jeanne Du Barry.

In a report from Deadline, France's Why Not Productions unveiled the first look at Johnny Depp as the controversial King Louis XV in the historical romance drama Jeanne Du Barry by French director, Maïwenn, who plays the titular role as well.

Just after the trial wrapped, Johnny Depp flew to Paris and to the Île-de-France region to start with the filming of Jeanne Du Barry and even having the Palace of Versailles as the place to shoot.

Jeanne Du Barry follows the controversial historical love affair between the titular character, a working-class woman who climbed the top of the social heap with her intellect and allure and caught the attention of King Louis XV who fell in love with her. Jeanne's highly scandalous arrival to Versailles marked in history.

Johnny Depp's role, King Louis XV is historically known as "Louis the Beloved" who had his 59-year-reign in France who was later accused of corruption and debauchery. This will be the first role of Depp since the trial.

Jeanne du Barry is produced by Why Not Productions, IN2 and France Télévisions and the film will be distributed through France. No need to worry for those outside of France since Netflix will be streaming the film after it comes out in French theaters.
