Johnny Depp won a high-profile defamation case between him and former wife Amber Heard on June 1 after weeks of arguments from either side. After the six-week trial and approximately 12 hours of deliberation over three days, the jury decided that the Aquaman actress defamed Johnny with actual malice in her 2018 op-ed.

On June 27, nearly a month since winning his $50 million defamation suit, Johnny Depp was sighted in Paris, where he is set to shoot his first film in more than two years.

Johnny Depp Moves On After Winning His Defamation Suit Against Amber Heard

Star Magazine, in its upcoming July 18, 2022 issue, reported that Johnny Depp feels like he has been given a second chance and he intends to make the most of it. During the highly publicized trial, the ex-lover of Amber Heard told the jurors he would lose “nothing short of everything” after his former wife wrote an op-ed about surviving domestic violence for The Washington Post in 2018.

Johnny Depp previously lost a libel case against the U.K.’s Sun for calling him a “wife-beater.” Work dried up and the Fantastic Beats actor was fired from the hugely successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

After the new verdict, Johnny Depp said:

“The jury gave me my life back. I am truly humbled.”

The trial showed Johnny Depp had been hemorrhaging money on his lavish lifestyle for years, though the jury awarded him $10 million in compensatory damages and $5 million in punitive damages. His former financial manager claimed that the ex-husband of Amber Heard, who owns a private island, spent $100,000 a month on a private doctor and two nurses, $300,000 a month on staffers and $10,000 a day on security detail.

In an attempt to redeem himself and resurrect his career, Johnny Depp admitted he has made a lot of mistakes and therapy could reportedly help him move forward. An unnamed source told Star Magazine:

“Johnny knows he’s still very much a work in progress.”

In court, his former psychiatrist, Alan Blaustein, recalled working with Johnny Depp to get sober over the course of 18 sessions with some success. The doctor shared:

“I knew Depp had anxiety. He told me. Johnny’s become a big believer in therapy and says it’s changed his outlook on everything. He learned tools that enabled him to take a step back instead of taking the bait and flying off the handle like he did in the past.”

Amber Heard Is Reportedly Seeking Mistrial In Johnny Depp Defamation Case

Meanwhile, the lawyer of Amber Heard reportedly wants to declare a mistrial over Johnny Depp’s defamation case after it was revealed the jury contained someone who was not supposed to be there.

Deadline reported one of the London Fields actress’ attorneys, Elaine Bredehoft, claimed that Juror No. 15 was not actually the very person summoned for trial but the roommate of the intended recipient.

Because of that, the legal team is requesting a mistrial. A new filing from Johnny Depp’s ex-wife read:

"Ms. Heard had a right to rely on the basic protection, as prescribed by the Virginia Code, that the jurors in this trial would be individuals who were actually summoned for jury duty.”

The new filing from Amber Heard’s camp also contains specific legal details that could require the verdict to be thrown out.

Attorney Elaine Bredehoft furthered:

"In this case, it appears that Juror No. 15 was not, in fact, the same individual as listed on the jury panel. Ms. Heard's due process was therefore compromised. Under these circumstances, a mistrial should be declared, and a new trial ordered."

Two individuals, according to the most recent filing, are residing at a Virginia residence with “the same last name” – one 77 years old and the other 52 years old. Though the summons was intended for the elder of the two, it appears that the younger individual showed up instead.

The new filing asserted:

"Thus, the 52-year-old- (redacted) sitting on the jury for six weeks was never summoned for jury duty on April 11 and did not 'appear in the list,' as required.”

Johnny Depp has yet to respond to the latest filing from Amber Heard’s camp.
