There is little doubt that people are questioning the future of the franchise after John Wick: Chapter 4 concluded on a truly depressing note. Still, Donnie Yen remains optimistic about his character's next move. The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story actor has teased a possible spin-off project focusing on Caine.

In John Wick: Chapter 4, Caine is revealed to be an old friend of John's who once worked as an assassin for the High Table. Although he is retired, Caine is forced back into the business by the Marquis Vincent de Gramont to kill John. By the end of the film, Caine manages to fatally wound John who later succumbs to his injuries and is buried beside his wife Helen.

Although it looks like it's over for John Wick, Donnie Yen clearly has hopes for Caine in the future. When Variety asked about his future Hollywood project, Yen stated that he is looking forward to returning as Caine.

“I’d love to do a John Wick spinoff centered around Caine,” he said. Yen then added that anything is possible, saying with a laugh: “There’s always ‘talks’ in Hollywood.”

It's certainly an awesome idea and another excuse to see Donnie Yen in action. Moreover, the John Wick franchise clearly has plans for more projects and it wouldn't be a huge surprise if one of them follows Caine as he faces off against Akira who is determined to avenge her father Koji who was killed by the assassin. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.

John Wick: Chapter 4 was also one of the last films that Lance Reddick worked on before his death earlier this month. Reddick was initially set to appear in the John Wick spin-offs Ballerina and the series focusing on the Continental.

Donnie Yen plays Caine in John Wick: Chapter 4 which is now screening in theaters worldwide.
